The Music Academy will be honouring Lalgudi sir with the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. I think this is the first award of its kind. I personally cannot think of a more deserving awardee. Sincere felicitations to the maestro!

Dear Every one,
I agree the interview was great etc. But for HEAVEN'S SAKE DON'T TALK ABOUT SOME ONE ELSE'S HEALTH PROBLEMS ESPECIALLY WHEN WHAT IS WRITTEN IS WRONG. ITS IRRELEVENT TO THE CREATIVITY OF THE LEGEND. THESE CROCODILE TEARS BEING SHED ESP. WHEN THEY ARE TOTALLY WRONG SHOULD BE CONDEMNED. HOW DO I KNOW THE INTERVIEWER WAS SANE? vkv

vkv PLEASE STOP SHOUTING AT US!
I enjoy your posts and I respect what you have to say, but I will not be lectured and shouted at.
Maybe you are not aware that this is now it comes accross --- but it is.
We will talk about whatever we please. The state of health of a major musical figure is a matter of public concern and interest.
Of course, if we hear bad news, and you are able to correct it with good news, then that is very welcome indeed.
REVISITED SOME TIME LATER...
It seems a long time ago now, but stuff hangs around on the internet for ever,
so I would like, having just come across it again, to say that the misunderstanding
between us about posting styles has been cleared up, and I am sorry for it

OF COURSE the state of health of such a great vidwan is of great concern to his rasikas! In fact, I went to the Vidushi Vijayalakshmi–Vidwan Vittal Ramamurthy kucheri in part to get to see him.
I have never seen him perform live, and only heard his records. After having seen him, I definitely hope he becomes all right and showers us all with fresh rains of musical creativity.

I went to the function. Anybody else? I didn't see anyone there that I recognised, apart from some of the musical celebrities, of course.
In review, I'd say that I found it rather bitty and broken up. I wish they had done all the bits first, and then had one single music concert, rather than having three separate performances, one at the beginning and two at the end.
But that is about the detail. the DVD film presentation was very interesting, the lec-dem (what a wonderful voice!) of course made me wish I understood it, I'm sure it was very worthwhile. Individual speaches and presentations were not too long.

I had opened a discussion about lalgudi jayaraman being a great teacher has produced good vocalists as well as violinists.By mistake it was posted under Visaka Hari.I requested the moderator to move it to an appropriate place.I am surprised to find my note totally missing.
----
I have noted the threads on MSG.Though one cannot forget the highest quality of violin which comes from MSG,it has to be acknowledged that LGJ has produced a number of violin players as well as vocal players. The most well known in vocal being Bombay Jayashree.Apart from his children,Vittal Ramamurthy,Padma Shankar,TRukmini are some of the violinists who are good performers today.
In the period 1960-2000,LGJ,TNK,MSG have all contributed as great violinists. So I do not think singling out only MSG is fair.
LGJ has accomplised himself as a an accompanist, solo player ,good in vocal and also as a composer.
I requst rasikas to respond.

Dear Coolkarni,
Thank you very much for your response and I am sorry if I have not conveyed properly.I do not want to contribute to any debate about the trio as all the three of them are trend setters. I am in Bangalore , hence I will miss your visit to LGJ. But I request you to kindly post the event in this forum.
Once again apologies from me.

I just listened to this great duet of LGJ and GJR held in Washington, D.C. in 1983:

The kalpanaswaras in urmika are brilliant. I only wish the volume of GJR's mic had been increased... But it's LGJ through and through carrying this concert with aplomb.

Dear Rasikas,
In December 1986, Sir Lalgudi was honored for his 50th concert at Krishna Gaana Sabha in Chennai. On that occasion the maestro spoke very highly of Chowdiah and about his (Lalgudi's) association in terms of friendships and performances in a home called 'Parvathi' in Mysore. Present also, as an invitee from Karnataka and also as a member of that household and asked to speak about Lalgudi was Advocate, K. Srikantiah.
Lalgudi performed in 'Parvathi' in 1958,1966,1971,1973,1974,1975,1976,1977,1978,1979,1980,1981,1982,1983,1984,1985,1986,1987 and 1990, sometimes participating in multiple concerts.
As we are compiling all information related to Chowdiah, we would be extremely obliged if someone has a recording from that occasion and would be willing to share the same with us.
Best wishes,

Posted select pieces of a 1973 concert of Lalgudi (solo) with Vellore Ramabhadran and Manjunath. http://chowdaiahandparvati.blogspot.com/
Sorry, this should read Lalgudi Jayaraman-Palghat Raghu-Vinayakram and the full concert is loaded. If it does not play due to some technical difficulty, we would appreciate your dropping us a line.

We seek his blessings on his birthday.
I had the oppurtunity to be at Sachchiidhananda Ashram, Velachery yesterday where there was a cd release function in which Swamiji mentioned that "I have been waiting for long years for Sri Lalgudi ji to compose tunes for the compositions of krithis in this album titled "Sachchidananda Swaramala". As lyrics came to my mind it was Lalgudiji who came to my vision for making the tunes for these. When it looked like getting delayed few others opted to do it but i was in the firm believe that if it is to be tuned it has to be Lalgudi ji and if not let these composition be sung by just the bhajan groups only".What a tribute to this living Legend! I bought a cd and the krithis are tuned to great musical values. Well please do not tag it as my advertisement effort - I thought of just sharing my opinion only. This function was followed by Sri Abhsek Raghuram's concert which was as usual a good one.
