English translation for "Allahvai naam thozhudhaal" (Tamil)

Post by student-rasika »

This song was composed by Nagore E. M. Hanifa (1925-2015), a Tamil politician and playback singer who composed a number of Muslim devotional songs. It was set to Behag raga by Sri T. M. Krishna, and the tala is misra chapu. You can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/rajesh-garga/6allahvai-naam

I would really appreciate if someone could translate the lyrics for me! Apologies for any mistakes in the Tamil lyrics or transliteration; I don't know Tamil.

அல்லாவை நாம் தொழுதால்
சுகம் எல்லாமே ஓடி வரும்
அந்த வல்லோனை நினைத்திருந்தால்
நல்ல வாழ்கையும் தேடி வரும்

Allahvai naam thozhudhaal
Sugam ellame odi varum
Andha vallonai ninaithirundhaal
Nalla vaazhkaiyum thedi varum

பள்ளிகள் பல இருந்தும்
பாங்கோசை கேட்ட பின்பும்
பள்ளி செல்ல மனமில்லையோ
படைத்தவன் நினைவில்லையோ

Palligal pala irundhum
Bangosai ketta pinbum
Palli sella manamillaiyo
Padaithavan ninaivillaiyo

வழிகாட்ட மறை இருந்தும்
வள்ளல் நபி சொல்லிருந்தும்
விழிருந்தும் பார்ப்பதில்லையோ
செவி இருந்தும் கேட்பதில்லையோ

Vazhikaatta marai irundhum
Vallal nabi sollirundhum
Vizhirundhum paarppathillayo
Sevi irundhum ketpathillaiyo

இறையோனின் ஆணைகளை
இதையத்தில் ஏற்றிடுவோம்
இறை தூதர் போதனையை
இகம் எங்கும் பரப்பிடுவோம்

Iraiyonin aanaigalai
Idhaiyathil ettriduvom
Irai thoothar podhanaiyai
Igam engum parappiduvom

Here is a basic translation.

Allahvai naam thozhudhaal - If we worship Allah
Sugam ellame odi varum - all happiness would come running (to us).
Andha vallonai ninaithirundhaal - If we remain thinking of the mighty one,
Nalla vaazhkaiyum thedi varum - the good life will come searching (for us)

Palligal pala irundhum - When there are so many places of worship,
Bangosai ketta pinbum - even after hearing the agreeable sound (of prayer)
Palli sella manamillaiyo - do you not have the heart to go to the mosque?
Padaithavan ninaivillaiyo - Do you not remember your maker?

Vazhikaatta marai irundhum - When there is the scripture to show the way,
Vallal nabi sollirundhum - when the words of the magnanimous prophet are available,
Vizhi irundhum paarppathillayo - would you remain unseeing even though you have eyes?
Sevi irundhum ketpathillaiyo - Would you remain without hearing even when you have ears?

Iraiyonin aanaigalai Idhaiyathil ettriduvom - We will take the commands of the lord in our hearts.
Irai thoothar podhanaiyai Igam engum parappiduvom - We will spread the teachings of god's messenger all over this world.

There are only 2 minor errors in your transliteration : vizhi irundhum and idhayathil (not idhaiyathil)

Congratulations Rajani. Excellent translation.particularly the word "palli" was a pitfall
As I understand , TMK performs regularly at the less publicised Tiruvisalur Sridhara Ayyaval Ganga Akarshana festival, where the audience willbe thrilled to hear this song next year and / or at the Nagore durgah kandhuri festival where the composer used to perform.
"Irai thoodhar podhanaiyai igam engum parrappiduvom" ( behag has the power of a sword when handled by Tmk.)
Previously, ( before the poramboke song and the magsaysay award ) TMK used to declare that music is a pure art and not a tool of social service or bhakthi propaganda.
I wonder why the HINDU has not given adequate publicity to this revolutionary song.
