Please shower (puri) your compassion (karuNai) (on me), Lord Muruga (murugayyanE), so that I may sing/chant/read (paDittiDa) your (nin) divine (tiru) praises (pugazh tanaiyE) [1] with the essence (rasamuDan) of music (gAna) dripping (ozhugu) with nectar (madhuram), to my mind’s/heart’s (manam) content (kuLira) [2].

One of sterling character (suguNa) who is an expert (nipuNa) at destroying (haraNa) the distress (dIna), dependence (parAdIna), and wretchedness (dainya) of good men and women (sujana), Oh spear wielder (vElanE) who destroys (samhAra) demons (dAnava), oh skandA (skandanE), the son-in-law (marumaganE) [3] of vishNu (mukundan)!

(Please shower your compassion on me, Oh murugA), so that I may take (eDuttu) the three types of tamizh (muttamizh) [4] that are like never-fading (enRum vADAda) flowers (malar) at your feet (ADiyiNai tanil) from which the fragrance (naRu maNam) of love (anbenum) wafts (vIshum) uninterruptedly (iDaiyarAda), and string them together (toDuttu) without any hindrance (taDaiyara), using a soft (mRduvAna) thread (nAril) made of the seven (Ezhu) types (vagai) of notes (svaram enum) that are unending (toDar), and sing (pADi) your praises (pugazh) daily (nidamum), and bow down and offer worship (parAvi paNindu) in all (tOrum) your (nin) temples (patigal) starting (mudaliya) with pazhani (with the essence of music dripping with nectar).
