Vizianagaram D Vardhini

Post by rajeshnat »

I wanted to join cool for this concert , but could not beat the traffic , instead on that day I went to hear Ms Ranjani GuruprasAd. I wish I had been to this concert , she singing a pallavi and the jambHavan TRS praising her pallavi.A review of her sarvani sangeetha sabha concert

Here's a lovely review by our own Cool-ji at his blog:

"All said and done, it was a beautiful concert and hence it was a beautiful night that received me, on my trek to the nearest Bus Stop. Vardhini – A gem of an artist in today's confusing world."

Excellent account of the concert by coolkarni in his blog.

>The surprise element was the structuring of the pallavi that left the audience stunned. It was in Sankirna jathi Triputa
>talam with Sankirna gathi in the three sashabdhakriya and chatusra gathi for the rest of the kriyas,

Interesting pallavi.

Got to listen to the demonstrative and educational snippet of the pallavi line.
This is how I heard this sangkIrna jAthi tripuata thala ( 9 + 2 + 2 = 13 beats ) pallavi is structured.
The total akshara count is 47 which is interesting in itself. Being prime, it does not lend itself to a single gathi.
So the mixed gathi is the way to go. ( Here gathi is used in the sense of constant akshara kAlas across all the
13 main beats of the thala, but varying number of aksharas per beat. So the beats are of varying length.
The 1st, 10th and 12th beats are 9 aksharams and rest of the beats are 2 aksharams )

47 is split into 22 + 25 for the purvanga and uttaranga respectively

The purvanga is 22 aksharams organized as ( 6 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 )
pada garbam/arudi for 5 aksharams
The uttaranga is 25 aksharams organized as ( 9 + 2 + 9 + 2 + 3 )

Please let me know if this looks correct.

Vk
I maybe a little bit dense! But due to the anAgata eduppu should it not be
purvanga (3+)6+2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 and
uttaranga 9+2+9+2 ?

CML, same thing, no material diff...I put the front 3 as part of the uttaranga of the pallavi line ( and not the thala ) since the sahitya line that occupies those 3 aksharams belong to the uttaranga. That may not be officially kosher...But while listening to it, I prefer to treat it that way.
