* I just saw in the Hindu "centenary remembrance "insertion from his family.
* AIR has relayed his concert promptly today. Why the same concert is broadcast everyyear? :!:
*Why his name not included in this year's list of artists for centenary events? :( (Or have I not noticed!)
*I suppose We should transfer this thread to one under"Vaggeyakaras". I wish some of his disciples will popularise his thillanas &release his concerts. :^)
* What should I do to download of mediafire contained in this thread. It is not happening for me.

TKR's daughter Mallika telephoned me last December to mention about the centenary celebrations to be held in Chennai in 2012 December. She said 'ippove invite pannittom'. Her son Aswin, works in US,will be in Chennai to perform for the centenary.Shall post the programme details once I get it.

link to Aswin's website http://www.ashvinbhogendra.com/

you can find some nice photographs of his grandpa

Thank you , it is lovely, also nice to hear Tanjore Upendran in mrudangam. I have heard a recording of BMK singing the same two ragas as pallavi. Few years back when I heard Manakkal , I did spot a lot of overlap of manakkAl and GNB , similarly I feel TK Rangachari is having a lot of overlap with GNB. Unfortunately TKR passed away in 1979, a lull decade of CM.

There is quite a lot of info about TKR in this charsur link below

The link posted by varsha is going to the general Ambalam blog. Here is the link for TKR specifically:

His 'Vagadeeshwari' alapana perhaps is the best one can hear and I doubt if anyone has come anywhere near it.
It is said that to develop a raga one has to assimilate/internalise sangathis in various krithis of that raga.
There is only one by Thyagaraja swami and hardly few by others. Yet TKR weaves a magical swaroopa of the raga
on a wide canvas. Mind bogling how he could do. Simply great
Pity that he did not get due recognition.

Dear all,

Please find in this youtube link (Thanks to the uploader) a wonderful Garudadhwani .. 2 minutes in to the kriti TKR takes off with swarm! the next 18 minutes is bliss.. With ragamalika swarm in kAnada and gAnamUrti … the way he gets back to garudadhwani is too good!

https://solvanam.com/?p=22892 a good write up by Arun Narasimman, long read, in Tamil.

Now to prove that an idle mind, at least at present, is a devils workshop - is that TMK the performer on that day?

TK Rangachari is an extraordinary vidwan, not an ounce of intense classicism is ever lost. His grandson DB Ashvin has written a nice pdf about the doyen

https://dhvaniohio.org/wp-content/uploa ... tenary.pdf

Also few great disciples of TKR which is a relevant snippet

"He trained many musicians including the late Vairamangalam Lakshminarayanan who accompanied him in several concerts spanning three decades. His other disciples included Neela Ramgopal, Neyyatinkara Mohana Chandran, Malini Kasturirangan, Jaya Krishnan, Palghat Ambi Iyer, and Sadagopan. Heis survived by five daughters and three sons "

Finally one grand son DB Ashvin is taking up pristine carnatic after his grandfather, after possibly no takers with 7 kids of TKR and may be all other grandchildren. I see one of TKR daughter Mallika Jayanth Kumar did take up some thing in cm ,not sure what that is.

On a sidenote Trichur Brothers paramaguru is TKR as their guru is Neyyatinkara Mohana Chandran
