Dear Shri Venkatakailasam,

I have started uploading music from my humble collection for over past seven decades on a blog , with the sole intention of sharing it with music lovers.
Needless to say that there is absolutely no commercial motive. It is also my sincere request that while all are welcome to download the songs, the spirit behind this
effort is respected.
Blog id is---apkoilns.blogspot.com
I shall be thankful for your kind feedback.
Hope you enjoy the renderings.

Coimbatore Thayi - Thiruvarutpa - Ramalinga Adigalar..

It is stated that this disc dates over 100 years ago.

Gramophone discs began to be cut in the Madras of the early 1900s and

Coimbatore Thayi was one of the first Carnatic singers to sign up. Her records were soon bestsellers and by 1911 she was receiving top billing as a recording artist. Sadly, she died before her time; she was in her mid-forties when she passed away. But her records kept selling long afterwards.

C.Saraswathi Bai

She was the first lady exponent of Harikatha. She was inspired by the style and technique of Thanjavur Krishna Bagavathar. Padmasini Bai, Banni Bai, Susheela Achutaraman and Sumathi Bai were some of those who took to Harikatha, while Vai Mu Kothainayaki Ammal and D.K. Pattammal took to music.

Saraswathi Bai in 1951 became the first woman to be recognised with an award by the Music Academy, Madras. Known as the First Lady Bhagavatar, she passed away in 1974, having lived a life of creative fulfillment.

Ms.Sundara Kamakshi was born in an Isai Vellalar family at Karaikal in Tamil Nadu. Like all temple towns once Karaikal had been famous for its sadir and sangeetham, with devadasis such as Sundarakamakshi attached to the temple. This rare recording from the 1930's of Sundarakamakshi features the Thyagaraja Song Pakalanilapadi...

Great to receive a series of Plate recordings dating to the early 1900's - In this recording - Ms.T.N.Manikkam.

On the devadasi trail - It is likely that Ms.T.N.Manikkam was a singer-courtesans or a Devadasi. The Devadasi families are known for their accomplishments in Classical music and dance.

Kumaresa Sadakam - Ms. A.Sundaram.

Gurupadhadhasar's Thiruppulvayal Kumaresa Sadhagam -
Sadhagams were usually written in a simple metrical form. As they were easy to learn and comprehend, they were often used as a means of driving home philosophical and moral truths. 'Kumaresa Sadhagam' is an example of sadhagam that used maxims or proverbs to comment on life and human nature.

Here in this video - A.Sundram sings Verse 17 of 100 - "thanga manathu thazhalil.

Thiruchendur Shanmugavadivu - Meenakshi Amman Pillai Thamizh....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMpRFt_B ... ure=relmfu

This great Gramophone recording of Tiruchendur Shanmugavadivu - the period is stated to be around 1910-1920. She sings Kumaragurubarars Meenakshi Amman Pillai Thamizh.

Madurai Meenakshi Temple, the goddess, came as a young girl and gave Kumaragurubarar when he composed the Pillai Thamizh on Ammans glory as a child. Pillai in Tamil means a young one. It is a song, with 10 parts, describing beautifully in each part the child as she grows.
