The lec-dem was by KSN. MSS accompanied him on the vINa. This was during one of the morning sessions of MA 1968, the year MSS was awarded the SK. In those days the morning sessions ( and the afternoon concerts) used to be conducted in a pandal located at the place where the mini hall stands now. I doubt if any of those sessions were recorded.
It will be really great if any recording of this is available. I still remember the outstanding bhairavi played by KSN. This is the best bhairavi alApana that I have heard.

No. The late night concerts used to be held at the main hall.
Till the mid sixties the concert timings and the venue were as follows
Morning Sessions – Pandal
Afternoon I Concert 2.30-3.30 PM - Pandal
Afternoon II Concert 3.30 to 5.00 PM – Pandal
Evening 5.30 to 8.30 PM – Main Hall( present TTK auditorium)
Night 9.00 to 11.30 PM – Main Hall
MA was quite rigid about the venue. For instance Madurai Srirangam Iyengar’s Kalanidhi concert accompanied by LGJ and PMI took place during one of the morning sessions and hence was held in the pandal. Veena ( then Baby) Gayathri’s first academy concert was also held in the pandal.
The first change in timings was effected in 1967 ( Saint Thyagaraja’s bi-centenary) when the duration of both the evening and night concerts was made 2hr 30 mins and also had equal “weightageâ€

Kaapiji is correct. I have heard m grandmom say that Smt MSS initially used to sing in the 9 pm slot on 31st Dec prior to 1960. Smt MSS became a biggie and moved up to the 530 pm slot on Dec 25th. Christmas and MS became synonymous with each other as far as MA was concerned. Later on she decided to give concerts on other days. Now NM and TNS are there for Christmas Day concerts - Two biggies by themselves. From Rubin mama's records it looks like Sri SSI preferred Dec 31st 530 pm slot at MA.
Then, when Sri Ravi Shankar come to Madras, he was given the 9 pm slot on the New Year's Eve. Raviji used to play until midnight and greet everybody Happy New Year and then finish his concert. I dont know whether he played mangalam
Those were the wonderful days before my birth!
The recording you have put up seems to be before 1971 (since Sri Chembai's name came up ). Do you have more such recordings?
Sri KSN is himself a brilliant veena artiste. I enjoy the sukhanubhavam in his music very much.

The fact that MSS and Ravishankar were reserved regular slots was objected to by some musicians. When Rajaji died on 25th Dec in 1972,MSS/TS being his disciples moved to some other dates and stopped altogether afterwards at the instance of TS.ksrimech wrote:Kaapiji is correct. There is a recording of exactly one solo concert of his in sangeethamshare.org
That, and some "sessions" together with Semmangudi, and I think one more as an accompanist to someone.
He seems to use a lot of split fingering (a technique I know to be richly used by Vidwan K G Vijayakrishnan, among current vainikas).

This article has a picture of him, with Semmangudi and Prof. Sankara Iyer. Can anyone please tell if KSN is to our right or Semmangudi's?
