They are one of the best duos performing in the carnatic music arena. They have ultimate sense of balance and manodharma.

I am not able to understand 'feel sad there are no takers for these two vidushis,. I am sure they are as busy as they used to be. Cannot find a major music festival anywhere without their performances. It is also a fact that it has become a highly competitive field with many youngsters rising up to the occasion , a happy development indeed. GOBILALITHA

Was wanting to initiate discussion about these 2 vidushis with the forum members. The waiting time has been long before a response has come, that is what i tried to mean by saying ' no takers'. I am a great fan of the Bombay sisters, and my daughter is their student. They are wonderful singers, and wonderful gurus too. Their down-to-earth demeanour with their students makes the students feel at ease before their gurus.

I too am a fan of their music. Do any of their students give concerts in Chennai?

Very nice writeup , particularly the magnanimity of that great senior musician then, to assure the organizers which proved a major break for the bombay sisters

In the article referenced above the Bombay sisters say

'Reminiscing the advanced classes with TKG, the sisters stress how the sahitya and bhava aspects were given abundant importance, even during improvisations. "Our neraval lines were diligently chosen so that we don't lose the meaning in the sahitya in unnecessary oscillations. The composer's emotion has to be respected,"

Dear Rasikas,

Please enjoy a delightful and variegated concert by the Vidushis in "Parvathi" Mysore in 1974. This is one of the early ones and was performed at a 'Ganapathi Homam' in the house. From the early 70s all the way to the start of the millennium, the sisters were welcomed many a time for their performances.

For many of their concerts Dindukal Sethuraman, Thiruvarur Bhaktha vatsalam and Thanjavur Subramaniam used to play mirudhangam and Ghatam continuously by Govindarajan. Dindukal Sethuraman and Govindarajan [ A prof of commerce in a local college , I presume] are missing now a days. Do they accompany any other musicians?

The song from recording from AIR

This kriti is stated to have been sung by Dikshitar for bringing rains to the parched lands near Ettayapuram. Immediately, the rains poured and he had to sing same kriti by changing the last line as 'stambhaya stambhaya stambhaya' in order to stop the downpour.

The sisters had their early initiation in Carnatic Music, first from their elder sister, Smt. Sethu Mahadevan and later from Sr. H.A.S. Mani (popularly known as Chellamani Baghavathar).
The sisters started their concert career from 1963.

I remember having attended with friends a concert at Viruthachalam temple during this period-63-64.( I was working with NLC at that time)
They were small girls ! I remember the concert was an enjoyable one though not a full fledged carnatic concert.
