In tamizh, we have to watch it when we mix non-tamizh words in expression. Most other languages are based on sanskrit, and we sound odd to the speakers of all those languages if we write the words our way! We may not be good at pronouncing them, but when we write the words down, it seems like a good idea to stick to the original sound by spelling it the way most of them do!

Not exactly - jalak doesn't exist as a word in hindi, while jhalak means a glimpse.

All a matter of what we are used to AND our wanting our own languages to keep to their own way of saying words as they are to be said in our own languages. Fair. Yet, if we use a hindi word like jhalak, we may not be able to say it that way, but we better write it down as it is in hindi!

Instead of calam for jalam
