The week-long Annual cultural festival began with a big-bang!

This kucheri was on the inaugural day. Bhagyanagar vasis’ Bhagyam it was, to listen and enjoy Prof. Sankaran Garu’s Mridangam- playing for the first 2 days of this series, after a gap of many years. He was the Guest of Honor while Prof. Mohan G. Ramanan was the Chief Guest. After the inauguration function, customary speeches and prize distribution etc., the concert started around 6.50 PM. Right from the first note of Begada ragam, there was never a dull moment during the 3-hrs-kucheri. All the songs were rendered by M.Bros in their usual style with clear diction, bhavam and appreciation for the co-artistes on the stage. Particularly with Sankaran garu playing for them, there were several instances of extended sangathis, swaras-round(s), which were immensely enjoyable. I felt this caused shortage of time for more kritis, but its Okay. They also kept expressing their respect for the veteran-maestro. Nagai Sriram and KVG were in full form. Pucca pakka-vadhyams made the kucheri extremely enjoyable. The two items in tamizh were sweet, but the thukkadas were repetitions (rasikas-requests maybe). It appeared that the Malladi Bros were in excellent mood, possibly looking at the pandal filled to its capacity, as well as being accompanied by the able-vidwans. Also this sabha, the Sharada Cultural Trust has always been a favorite one for the Brothers, as they have been performing regularly right from the early days of their music career (they were telling to someone after the concert it seems). The Octogenerian –young and energetic Ambujam Mami who is the President and other members adore them mutually. I missed Revanth, who I am sure too would have enjoyed thoroughly and written in greater detail, about every kucheri that this wonderful ‘All-Ladies’ organization arranges (including the canteen which serves delicious food) and conducts in a very grand manner, sticking to punctuality, and professional approach. Hats off to all of them!!

Overall, a splendid kucheri!!
