The two day youth festival at Nadasurabhi was a grand success. On Saturday, the 18th Kumari Sriranjani Santhanagopalan, a young artist from Chennai gave a memorable concert. Trained under her illustrious father Vidwan Neyveli Santhanagopalan, there was no dearth of creativity or excellence! The Ata tala varnam in Kanada raga – Neranammi in two speeds gave a good start. With a brief sketch of raga Nagaswaravali she presented Sree pathe nee of St. Thyagaraja followed by a vibrant swara prasthara at pallavi with which she asserted her brilliance. Elaboration of raga Darbar for Thyagaraja’s Munduvenuka… was pleasing with fine raga phrases. Hari Narayana.. of Purandaradasa in raga Kedaram with brief swaras came out with full ‘bhava’. Her best came out for the presentation of raga Ritigowla, with beautiful sancharas, with emotional appeal. The composition that followed was again Thyagaraja’s Raga ratna malikache with neraval at the expected Bhagavathothamulu goodi. She ended it, with a highly calculated swara combinations which came out brilliantly. Ennalu thiruguthanu in Mandari raga was breezy with an impressive ending. Todi raga presentation was detailed and mature. The kriti was Ninne nammi naanu with a superb neraval at Kamakshi kanjadalayatakshi and well worked out, highly energetic swara prasthara. The whole Todi presentation was simply admirable. This was followed by Tani avartanam. After a bhajan in raga Vardhini and two tamizh songs in ragas Maand and Huseni she concluded the concert.
The accompanying artists were equally brilliant, matching her skills very well. Vittal Rangan showed his expertise in following her in every detail and also making impressive solo presentations as and when he was required to. B.C. Manjunath displayed extra ordinary talent in understanding the mood of the artists and playing accordingly. Sunaad Anoor was closely following the mridangam and he was no less in exhibiting his skills. Sreeranjani is an artist with great talent and high confidence. She excecutes what she plans with proper understanding with the co artists. Her communication with them was perfect. The whole team was brilliant, cheerful and electrifying. The concert was well attended and the artists were applauded for their excellence.

Song List:

1. Jaya jaya jayajanki Nattai (S)
2. Manaviyala Nalinakanthi
3. Mamava meenakshi Varali (R,N- Shyuame shankari)
4. Nadopasana Begada (R,S) Tani Avartanam
5. Bhajan chaalale
6. Slokam-Ramaya rama bhadraya, Pibare ramarasam Yamankalyani

On the second day, 19th a young artist from Bangalore Kumari Bhargavi Venkatram gave a highly impressive vocal concert. Hailing from a family of musicians she showed a high level of confidence with great talent. A good selection of ragas for popular and heavy compositions made her concert attractive. The creative side of the artist came to the fore fully in her presentation of ragas Varali and Begada. Her neraval at Shyame shankari for mamava meenakshi in Varali and swaraprasthara for Nadopasana in Begade were extremely good. Brilliant swaras for Jaya jaya jayajankikantha in Nattai in the beginning itself was admirable. She planned her 90 minutes concert very neatly fitting a fast Manavyala in Nalinkanthi and a bhajan along with these songs and finished off very well with Pibare rama rasam preceded by a shlokam. Vaibhav Ramani on violin followed very well like a seasoned artist there by showing his potential in promoting himself to a higher grade very soon. Akshay Anand on Mridangam also gave a good support and his Tani avartanam was good. On the whole the concert was of a high quality and was well received by the audience. This was followed by the group rendering of Pillari Geethes and Thyagaraja Pancharatna Kritis lead by senior musician Vidushi Neela Ramgopal. Several renowned and up coming artists also joined the group in paying tributes to the saints. Both the programmes were well attended.
