Beautiful.
And a perfect example of Mridangam *not* stealing the show

Doesn't seem like it shows up here. What a colossal miss!

Sadly no, Parivadini did not cover this.
An exquisite concert: even the lighter pieces at the end were a great pleasure.
Varadarajan seems to me to be one of the greats of his generation. Manoj Siva's accompaniment was just perfect.

Great stage presence. Great camaraderie with the mrdangist.
Hard to refrain from comparing this to the other great 2 person concert in the Marungapuri series featuring RKSK and KAP.
1. Both were melodically great and held the attention of the rasika tautly from start to finish.
2. There was a particular briskness and verve in the neraval/swaras in SV's concert particularly embellished by Manoj Siva.
3. The choice of kritis and the sequencing added an emotional content that put the RKSK concert above the stratosphere.
Went back and took another look at the review of RKSK concert. Simply no comparison

Taking each on its own terms, I found both to be great concerts. I could add the Vital/Padma duet in there too for a third.
All three concerts pleased me a great deal (the other two in the series, yes, but less so) but in different ways. I explained the comparison to myself in this way: to touch the stars is incredible, to appreciate the flowers in the valley is also wonderful.

Very nicely said!
Reminded me of the mahAkavi's vision for India: 'vAnai aLappOm kaDal mInai aLappOm'! (Loose translation: Our reach will extend to the stratosphere and beyond, even as we plumb the depths of the oceans)
