Felt that the opening dinamani vamsa was a bit ovérdone - with the raucous korvai & finish. Thankfully the proceedings picked up some grace with the slow Dikshitar kriti & maintained it for the rest of the concert.

The relatively rare Neelambari kriti of Thyagaraja was special. The ragamalika guru vandanam at the end (tuned by RKSK as announced) was extra special. Missing quite a bit of it from the video. Interestingly she had no problem remembering the chitta swaras.

Very nicely structured concert with lot of great moments all the way through.

Seems like the "raucous korvai" has been edited out. See the jump at 13:15.

To be honest "Dinamani vamsa" sounds better on video than it did live. May be the audio balance at the hall was not fully adjusted for the 1st song. May be it was the heavy start, too much too soon, which felt like drinking from a fire hose. However the audience seemed to have enjoyed it much more as was demonstrated by the huge applause

Thanks for the transcript. Interesting that there was no mention of the saree color or accessories :)

It was the second concert of the evening at the venue. So no probs. (Sunil Gargyan sang in the first slot 4.30 to 6.30 pm) Hence for those who came only for NR, Dinamani might have sounded rather heavy!

However the present trend of concert rendering is more into offering surprise starters, unusual passages for neraval, 'Aryabhata' swaraprastaras etc. The young are too brilliant.

I have been enjoying her music for some time, but find that she has, (searching for the right metaphor) increased in stature(?). She has also increased in crowd-pulling ability: I did not expect the hall to be packed yesterday, but it was.

My subjective sense is in agreement with Suresh: the concert really got off the ground only after one or two songs. But then it really flew! The sound balance was not quite right at the start, with the voice a little low, putting it into the background against the accompaniments. I don't know if it was my ears or the sound that was adjusted!

Nisha Rajagopal is a musician whom I like to hear anytime. I have listened to many concerts of hers and her mother and I have respect for their schools (Semmangudi and TRS). Dinamanivamsa vamsa, to me is a perfect opener- Harikambodi ragam, and a song much in heard in the concerts of SSI, DKP, Alathur, MS etc. They would have sang as the second song- after the varnam. Never mind, Nisha sang it very well with the right sangathis and an elaborate swaraprastaram. I liked it very much.

Varali was also well done- I remember two schools for Varali- SSI and TNS. Nisha handled it very well. Afterwards I left and heard the Bhairavi in yt. A solid concert.

CRama... was expecting a more elaborate report.

Varali was exquisite. She has the amazing ability to modulate the power in her voice - at times intensely forceful and at times mellow and fragile. Another aspect is to highlight the eduppus - showed up during the swaras in Varali as also in neelambari.

This concert was certainly the pick of the series for me.

I fully agree with you. What was the song in Neelambari

Ennaga manasuku raani.

Simply intoxicating. 22:10 into the video.

Nice lyrical technique used by T where he repeats the ending words to start the next line in each charanam. Wondering if the singing could have emphasized that part a bit more.

Nisha is always meticulous in coming up with a lovely well balanced song list . Her voice is melody centric. What is this series Suresh is ragasudha booked by PSN disciples and a series of concerts is going on there

Singing with a little more emphasis on the lyrical/literary beauty will make her even more phenomenal.
