Savitha Sriram - PSN Parampara

Post by melam72 »

The latest product of the PSN disciple making factory is Savitha Sriram, whose concert (as I am writing) is underway in Raga Sudha. Song list till now:

1) Vanajakshi - Kalyani (v)
2) Palimpa - Arabhi - a, s @ palimpa
3) Padavini - Salagabhairavi

Sahana is underway now.

Very nasal and odious voice, but vivid imagination, and strong grip over laya. Hopefully she skips the Semmangudi route of doing bhajanai every concert, and of performing too often too. She is better suited as a guru.

Must be "new" to you. Nasal & melodious. Odious is your review trying to drag down iconic personalities in order to be "noticed".

I would like to clarify : I didn't drag down Semmangudi. I merely stated that her voice is too nasal for my taste, which, for me, is unpleasant.

I feel that he could've used his vast padantharam better, by not singing the same pieces in rotation and playing to the galleries. It is not enough that you have so much knowledge; you should use it too.

And, for the record, after listening to more of her concert, I realised that her voice is not as unpleasant in the thara shay, and it is only in the mel sthayi it hits you right across the face.

Why this necessity to sing in higher octaves when you can sing better in lower octaves?

Why pander to the audience?

Why are you writing here & not in your diary?

You seem to want an audience for your pronouncements which I doubt anyone else wants to hear (other than some dubious anonymous characters that show up on occasion & then disappear into the woodwork). On the other hand, these artistes have an audience that likes to listen to them & a sponsor who likes to give them the stage.

Full open throated effortless singing with a wide range. Hoping to hear her more often on stage.
