Good concert by Carnatica Brothers. Excellent team of artists. Sri. Ganesh's alapana in Saveri was brisk and mellifluous. I had not heard the krithi Varada navaneetha or the raga Ragapanjaram/ Ragapancharam before. It seems to be a rare raga.Their RTP rendition was as usual brilliant. They chose to sing it in a series of raga Kannada. They sang an elaborate Kannada, Shashikiran sang Kannada gowla, Nagai Muralidharan rendered Navarasa Kannada on his violin while Ganesh sang Kannada Maaruvam. The last raga (a rare one) was announced by Ganesh. The exchanges of Swarams between the brothers and Sri. Nagai Muralidharan were a treat to listen to. They sang the same in the reverse order and rendered the whole cycle in Khanda gati and tishra gati. The pancha raga pancha tala Thillana was mind blowing. I had not heard this before either. I heard that it was composed by their guru Chitravina Ravikirana for his dance drama production 'Lakshmi Prabhavam' which was performed here about twenty years ago.
Sri. Nagai Muralidharan was of course superb on his violin. The Thani by the percussionists Sri. Thiruvarur Vaidyanathan and Sri. Guruprasad was enjoyable. I felt the audio for the vocalists could have been better.
