Smt Aruna Sairam - shanmukhananda - Bombay - 20/8

Post by priyashekar »

Smt Aruna Sairam - Vocal
Padma Shankar - Violin
J.Vaidyanathan - Mridhangam
Karthik - Ghatam

Namachivaya viruttham followed by Sababathikku - Abhogi
Bhagaya nayya - CHandrajyoti
Nannu VIdachi - Reetigowlai - alap
Abatinde olage ?? - Poorvi kalyani - purnadaradasar
Nambi Kettavar
RTP -Thodi - Murugane guhane unadu padam thunai vadivelane valli manavaalane - S Hamsanadam atana ranjani Darbari Chenchurutti and Abheri
She sang one lines on the 6 padai veedu at the end of swarams and finished with the arupadai veedu names at the end.
Maragada mani - Arabhi
Vishamakaara kannan
Raja sa sukkumara - Abhang
Maa kaali - Jaago - Bengali song
Venkatesam namami virutham followed by Bhgyada lakshmi

What can I say when she sings same songs in last 5 concerts that I have heard in Bombay in the last 3 -4 years - only in different sequence.
Masochist that I am ,went despite heavy rains only to return home disappointed and see my son laughing at me gleefully for the trouble i inflicted on myself.

Only RTP was interesting as she sang spiritedly adding small 2 liners about the 6 padai veedu at end of each swara ragam and ended with the names of the places in final swaram .

Warning for future !

Just because Sudha and Raga copied her and sing abhang she has jumped to other area and sang a Bengali song. So Sudha and Raga will sing in next concert bengali song! How about bhangra in next?

My grouse why sing abhang etc when we have enough tamil songs. Do hindustani fellows sing any carnatic song?

Very disappointed !

Hope tomorrow SIkkil Gurucharan makes up for today's disappointment .

Sat with an open mind (no bias) , but could not sit beyond abOghi swaras, they were so amateurish. left after that.

What do you mean by ....She sang one lines on the 6 padai veedu at the end of swarams and finished with the arupadai veedu names at the end.

nambikETTavar is in hindOLam, right?

maragatha maNi maya should be in Arabhi?

She sang 6 ragams for swaram and ended the swaram indicating the significance of the 6 arupadai veedu in one line .For eg she sang atana for Thriruchendur ,chencurutti for Thirutani .Then she mentioned the arupadai veedu names when she sang the swaram in reverse order.
Sorry oversight maragada manii is arabhi

In Kannada, it is written and pronounced as

ādaddellā oḷite āyitu

Whatever has happened has happened only (for) good!

The story I heard was about when Purandara Dasa was travelling through a jungle with his wife after renouncing everything, she often acted highly frightened of thieves. He inferred that she must be hiding something valuable in their belongings. He searched and found a silver bowl. She had hidden it hoping it will help them tide over any trouble by selling it off, ans now she waa afraid of thieves.
Purandara Dasa threw the bowl into an abandoned well. And she was quite unhappy. He consoled her, saying, they had nothing to worry, as "whatever has happened is only for good".

Remember that Purandara Dasa had been a fabulously rich merchant.
