A Great Loss to Indian Music. Pt Kishen Maharaj can never ever be replaced.

I saw him play the most beautiful and musical tabla solo I've ever heard, some years back, in London.

Sad news.

In the Great Master series broadcast on Doordarshan in the 80s,
Kishen Maharaj was asked by the interviewer if he had any formal education.

And he replied thus (in Hindi )
No .I did not get beyond Third Standard.You see, there was this school teacher who , one day, punished me in class by rapping me on my knuckles.That was the day my Dad decided , Formal education was not worth the risk.And true to his belief I have taken excellent care of my fingers all these years !!'
