Just picked this up and sounds very promising so far! Brilliant Pantuvarali! Great support from TK Ramanujachari and TVG! Will post details later. At 550, a bit steeply priced though

Vijay, how is the recording quality?

It is quite good Mahavishnu. Of course one has to make allowance for the fact that it is an old recording - but it is about as good as concerts that old get...

thanks, Vijay.

I find the Paddathi series from Charsur can be "hit or miss" when it comes to recording quality. The recordings of Mali, GNB and Musiri are great for the period that they were recorded in, but poor fidelity. The SSI, Lalgudi, KVN albums are all decent reproductions and you get a good sense of the acoustics in the live concert.

I hope to pick up the S.Kalyanaraman soon... BTW, Is TK Ramanujachari the same as the violinist Ramanujacharyulu?

I had the same thought...but this concert was in 1968 and our TKV is a youngish chap!

Could TK Rangachari and TK Ramanujachari be related ?

Quite possible...in fact, I'd say a bit of a co-incidence about their names if there weren't

The last time I bought CDs from this label, I was irritated that they all contained only 60 minutes of music, same as the cassettte tape.

Do they still do this?

For re-issue of archive stuff previously only available on tape, its ok. For new issues, I think it a rip off.

Ragam-taanam I do not have the CD with me since my goods are lying in Mumbai while I cool my heels in B'lore! However IIRC RTP in Kharaharapriya is the main piece. Remind me in a while. You amy also get the details at ww.charsur.com

About 60 minutes per CD is right....highly priced but the recording quality is generally good and the sleeve notes are nice. The packaging does not fit into standard CD stacks though...

On a related note, It's been a while since I curled up with a book and 5 new CDs in my system...blame it partly on this crazy business of moving and partly on the quantity of online (read free) music...

Vijay, I think the solution to your problem might be a ipod (or equivalent). I am never separated from my music now, so to speak.

Belated response Mahavishnu but I've never been a great fan of earphones - my ears get tired after half an hour...the new solution is to buy a DVD with a USG plug in along with home theatre. I've set it up in Mumbai now and it works fabulously. Get a 4 GB USB or a USB Hard Drive and you have enough music for a week...best of all I do not have to listen to Sangeethapriya downloads through my laptop's tinny speakers!

Vijay ... Not with this clip.. you will find it difficult to take the earplugs off
http://rapidshare.com/files/147931551/MDR_1.mp3
a recent find in an old forgotten tape.
MDR at his best .UKS at his best..
care for the second half ?

the track beats the half an hour limit by a few seconds though.
:P

Wish we could all gather in front of your home theatre-sathej,sbala,bharath,ram,rajumds and all the rest.
And listen together.

Thanks sir - missed this earlier...yup second half would be fantastic!
As for my home theatre - it is nothing very fancy - quite a basic set up but works nicely...but you are all most welcome to Mumai -I will be my pleasure to host you! Maybe we can have the Ram-Prashant combo at my place if everyone is game...a grand rasikas road trip, what say!.

Brilliant Kharaharapriya RTP from SKR!
Plays with the raga like with a child. Many antics but a lot of beauty. Superb violin support and lots of camaraderie between artists.
Real magic going on! They do things with K'priya which can't even be imagined!
Amazing. We are fortunate to have these recordings with us.

The MDR Saragunapalimpa is mind blowing. Thank you Coolkarni for sharing this. Please share the second half as well.
