Help with Lyrics of "Nirutha GanapathiyE"

Post by umasankara »

This is one of the invocation item on Lord Ganesha composed by Shri Madurai R. Muralidharan. I've listened to the song and came up with the following lyrics. However, I am doubtful on the underlined portions. It would be wonderful if someone can help. Also I need help with understanding the meaning. Here is the link to the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_H0_BWIGM8. Here's the lyric I jotted down:

Nirutha GanapathiyE, unai, manuththul
Nirutha thunai varuvAi
Varuthum thuyar kalaiyum aingaratha karimuganE, karunai nidhiyE

Ninaikkum adiyavar azaiththidavE thinam thunaikku vandhidum thUmaniyE
nina badamuyarkkum saguna nirguna parabramha swaroobane

Adhi nayagan arul nidhiye
Vedha nayagan pugalndhavane
Modhakam yendhum mulu mudhale
Nadha rupa laya nayagane

VAma dEvarum vAnavarum dhinam vanangidum varana mAmuganey
DhAmadham indriyE dhayai purindharulvAy tharunam idhuvE murali panindhidavE

Here you go. Please note the corrections to the lyrics based on the various versions of this piece available on the net (by the way, the choreography of Dr. Sheela Unnikrishnan is by far the best, IMO):

nirutta gaNapatiyE unai manuttuL nirutta tuNai varuvAi
varuttum tuyar kaLaiyum ainkaratu karimukhanE karuNai nidhiyE

Oh dancing (nirutta) gaNESa (gaNapatiyE)! Please come (varuvAi) as my companion/support (tuNai), so that I can firmly establish (nirutta) you (unai) in my heart (manattuL). Oh repository (nidhiyE) of compassion (karuNai)! Oh five-armed (ainkarattu) [1], elephant (kari)-faced one (mukhanE), who destroys (kaLaiyum) painful (varuttum) sorrows (tuyar)!

ninaikkum aDiyavar azhaittiDavE dinam tuNaikku vandiDum tUmaNiyE
enai tirampaDa uyarttum saguna nirguna parabramha svarUpanE

Oh precious and blemishless pearl (tUmaNiyE) who appears (vandiDum) every day (dinam) as the support (tuNaikku) for devotees (aDiyavar) as they call out (azhaittiDavE) when meditating on (ninaikkum) you! Oh supreme (parabramha) form (svarUpanE) that is both inclusive of (sa), and devoid of (nir) of all virtues/meritorious qualities (guNa) at the same time, that elevates (uyarttum) me (enai) from strength to strength (tirampaDa)!

Adi nAyakan aruL nidhiyE
vEda nAyakan pugazhbavanE
mOdakamEndum muzhu mudalE
nAda rUpa laya nAyakanE

Oh treasure (nidhiyE) granted (aruL) by the grace of the Supreme (Adi) Lord (nAyakan) [2]!
Oh lord who is praised (pugazhbavanE) by the Lord (nAyakan) of the vEdas (vEda) [3]!
Oh complete (muzhu) and ancient one (mutalE), who holds (Endum) a mOdaka!
Oh Lord/master (nAyakanE) of rhythm (laya) and the very form (rUpa) of sound/music (nAda)!

vAmadEvarum vAnavarum dinam vaNangiDum vAraNa mAmukhanE
tAmadam inRiyE dayai purindaruLvAi taruNam iduvE muraLi paNindiDavE

Oh one with the mighty (mA) elephant (vAraNa) face (mukhanE), who is worshipped (vaNangiDum) by Siva (vAmadEvarum) and other celestial beings (vAnavarum) daily (dinam), please shower (purindaruLvAi) your compassion (dayai) without (inRi) any further delay (tAmadam), for this (iduvE) is the time (taruNam), as the composer, Sri Muralidaran (muraLi), bows down (paNindiDavE), (Oh dancing gaNESA for you to come as my companion/support, so that I can firmly establish you in my heart).

FOOTNOTES
[1] Five armed - 4 arms (as all gods) + trunk = 5
[2] Adi nAyakan = Siva
[3] vEda nAyakan = bramhA
