Narasimha, the fourth avatar of Mahavishnu, is unique in being a concatenation of two different creatures - Man and Lion. Narasimha as a deity has resulted in very few compositions, especially compared to the other popular avatars of Rama and Krishna. However, the few that are in existence bring out the nature and power of Narasimha and the fascinating aspects of this unique avatar. This programme, in connection with Narasimha Jayanthi, plays a few classical compositions on Narasimha by various composers

The Carnatic repertoire contains a good number of songs on Ganapati. Composer Muthuswami Dikshitar himself is credited with almost 27 compositions. There are many epithets to this god. As a representative of ‘pranava’ or ‘om’ and as one who’s profile resembles this symbol, he is called ‘Pranavakaram’ in one song. The songs on this programme feature different composers and cover a gamut of aspects of this deity.

Tanjavur S Kalyanaraman was one of the most creative and original musicians in recent times. A senior student of G N Balasubramaniam, Kalyanaraman displayed the same qualities as his gurus - incessant curiosity, a thoughtful and analytical bent of mind, and a penchant for seeking out the new in the old.. This is a tribute to Tanjavur S Kalyanaraman in connection with his birth anniversary on June 2
