Last song

Post by srikant1987 »

I came across this question on Quora, and thought it would also be good to take up here. If you had one last song to listen to before you died, which would you choose?

IIRC, we had discussed something like this before (I could not find it) and my choice then was "yennaiyum vara sonnArO".....;)
What's yours?

my preferred take off at
Kabir
Ud Jayega Huns Akela,
Jug Darshan Ka Mela
Jaise Paat Gire Taruvar Se,
Milna Bahut Duhela
Naa Jane Kidhar Girega,
Lageya Pawan Ka Rela
Jub Howe Umur Puri,
Jab Chute Ga Hukum Huzuri
Jum Ke Doot Bade Mazboot,
Jum Se Pada Jhamela
Das Kabir Har Ke Gun Gawe,
Wah Har Ko Paran Pawe
Guru Ki Karni Guru Jayega,
Chele Ki Karni Chela

Translation

The Swan Will Fly Away All Alone,
Spectacle of the World Will Be a Mere Fair
As the Leaf Falls from the Tree
Is Difficult to Find
Who Knows Where it Will Fall
Once it is Struck with a Gust Of Wind
When Life Span is Complete
Then Listening to Orders, Following Others, Will Be Over
The Messengers of Yama are Very Strong
It's an Entanglement with the Yama
Servant Kabir Praises the Attributes of the Lord
He Finds the Lord Soon
Guru Will Go According to His Doings
The Disciple According to His

And landing in my next janma with :)

Dikshitar is stated to have left his mortal coil while listening to the song 'mInAkshi mE mudam' - in particular, the words 'pASa mOcani'.

All that needed is just one whiff that epitomises one's life-long yearning. The question is 'will we be lucky to have that whiff' notwithstanding all encumbrances.

I asked my father why he named me so - and not after my grand-father. He said that at least he could call that name in his last moment - as a ruse to calling Him - probably he was influenced by 'ajAmiLa' episode.

The last few days that my Dad was delirious in his battle against cancer , he kept referring to MSS and KVN as the most soothing , in his painful estate .
Two weeks after all the earthly rituals were over , I found this track on the tape which he had last recorded in his taperecorder .

For me, it will be MLV's rendition of Thiruppavai (counts as 30 songs, but yeah). Preferably while having paruppu urundai kozhambu with a lot of vetha molaga and getti thayir
