Indira sivasailam Award 2017 LALGUDI KRISHNAN AND VIJAYALAKSHMI

Post by hnbhagavan »

The least recognised Violin Pair and the most melodious pair who get much less publicity in Rasikas.org-their concerts are rarely reviewed have been awarded the INDIRA SIVASAILAM 2017.
It is a tribute to LALGUDI SIR and I hope against hope that the LALGUDI PAIR are conferred the SANGEETHAKALANIDHI by MUSIC ACADEMY.

Sir, a richly deserved award. Congratulations to the Lalgudi children.

It is almost impossible to see the children of celebrities do well. They are overshadowed by the immensity of the famous parent's persona and daunted by the gift of genius. Nature is miserly when conferring genius. It seems to follow a rationing system. If this generation is in, the next is definitely out. And the next...

Sri. Krishnan and Smt. Vijayalakshmi have baulked this trend. I feel their music has the complex grammar of the Lalgudi Jayaraman bani, the manodharma that he was famous for. But they have not allowed refinement or melody drop one bit. In fact their violin duets are infinitely melodious.

Sri. Krishnan is a wonderful accompanist, too. Perhaps the best male violin accompanist in a long time.

They have produced wonderful albums together, and I loved their album Raga Rasa.

Their exemplary organisation and conduct of the Lalgudi 80 celebrations and also Sri. Krishnan's initiative to bring master violin makers over to India to repair violins are indeed laudable.

Some of these awards distinguish themselves by honouring true merit.

Excellent and nicely put Sachi. It is indeed difficult being a legend's children getting unfairly compared with the genius father. In their own way they play true to Lalgudi tradition ,but also established their Individual style. The Volume of Sound level and their Violin play sans gimmicks never allow the Bang Bang type of percussion.
May the siblings get more recognition from Rasikas not just organisations.

Mighty happy to hear this. Sachi says it so well. Yes, for the lineage and for their own merits. Congratulations to Vijayalakshmi and Krishnan for their innate gift and for working on them all these years :)

Bhagvan, thanks for bringing the news here. Please edit the title. Indra Sivasailam is the name.
