Hats off to Parivadini

Post by Sachi_R »

Dear Rasikas,
I was able to elicit from Sri. Lalitharam some statistics about the Parivadini YouTube uploads. Apparently, this is not a complete list as videos have been uploaded under two different names.

The Parivadini Channel from Dec.1, 2014 till Sep.3, 2017:

1. 500 live concert uploads of average duration exceeding 2 hours! So a minimum of 1000+hours of Carnatic concert music, live video
2. Over 629000 views!
3. Over 104 thousand hours of viewing!

Hats off to Parivadini. With minimal marketing, almost zero funding, an idea has taken firm roots, to spread Carnatic music digitally around the world. Blessed are the artistes, organisers and the listeners.

I thank Sri. Lalitharam and Parivadini heartily for this yeoman service.

🙏🙏🙏

Congratulations! There was a post from them that said - they don't monetize from youtube? If that is true, I would strongly encourage them to start doing that! Not sure if that was done because of copyright fights.

I imagine some monetisation is happening. But it is almost completely an out-of-pocket engagement.

Kudos to LR and team! Quality work, not at all lacking in quantity. How many concerts and lec-dems to savor!
Idealism combined with the zeal to share--which means a lot of labor (of love). Dignified, commercialism kept at bay. No pleas for funds. The one time they asked, some of us on Rasikas.org contributed. Hope more do.This is a class act. Needs to be nurtured...

Yes, indeed. It is a great thing that they are doing.

I think there have been various financial hopes/plans/ideas which have not really come to anything. Far from simply giving up in the face of no-profit, it looks like they have cut back to minimum expense and carried on.

The show must go on! :)

Even a contribution of rs 20 per Rasika per view live or otherwise will fetch a good sum of money.Once logged in Rs 20/ should be valid for 24 hours.

Simply AMAZING ! I am a subscriber to Gamakam ( Sri.Lalitharam) and have read his biography of GNB with great interest. ( Sruthi..pdf available in the web). I did not know that he was involved in Parivadhini uploads also.
" 500 live concert uploads of average duration exceeding 2 hours! So a minimum of 1000+hours of Carnatic concert music, live video".. ( all this in youtube..free!). Absolutely wonderful commitment and labour.
----------------------------------------
A few suggestions.
1) We can upload to Soundcloud also. It is much more compact. and is pure audio. Moreover, we never know, when youtube deletes a video. ( their software does it, it seems!).

2) Imagine a vast library of thousands of books, without any well designed catalog and updates. It will be very difficult then for the readers to really use the library.
Likewise, Parivadhini should have a very simple websiteto catalog all the uploads with title, links and a brief introduction. 500 uploads is a daunting task. Volunteers will be available from this forum.
As all these are concert uploads, we must give a list of kruthis sung in each of the concerts with ragam information.
We can split up the concert songs and give individual ( internal or sub pages) for the concerts.
Every now and then, some maintenance break is required for all such great and massive work.
3) The best free site for this purpose will be , from my experience, googlesite.
4) We can make the pages more informative by giving photographs, kruthis, meaning, and other related information.
All this effort will need financial resources and though many if not every one in this forum will feel it a privilege to make anonymous contributions, they may not know, how to do it. The necessary info can be given through these pages. Once again, thanking you for the tremendous contribution.

Dear Sachi,

I didn't realised a post like this was coming when I shared the channel statistics with you. Pleasant surprise, thank for your kind words and the wishes from the other rasikas.

To be fair, most of the credit should go to Naada Inbam that actually conducts the concert. For more than a year we have been using services of Sekar who is part of Naada Inbam to get the webcast done. Parivadini is almost running on auto pilot mode as far as webcast is concerned.

I take this opportunity thank Smt. Jaya and Sekar for helping us keep Parivadini alive.

As a policy we do not monetize the content on YouTube.

If one chooses to monetize, the discussion should be around what would be the share for the artists who perform, the organiser and the channel that enables the webcast. The more one discusses on this topic it only leads to bitterness and mistrust (Believe me! We have tried).

We are quite happy to continue running like this and cover our expenses towards webcast and the yearly concert series through donation we receive towards Parivadini Charitable Trust. Quite a few members in this form have been supporting us through donation on a regular basis. I take this opportunity to thank them one more time.

Dear Ram,
This is a virtuous circle of rasikas for sure, and I know what a great rasika you are.

For those who still don't know it, Jaggi Vasudev=Isha. Sri Sri = AOL. Lalitharam = Parivadini.

Ram, we have probably discussed many of the ideas that RSR has given here.
I second him/her about
1. Creating a searchable index like Sangeethapriya has.
2. Segmenting videos/bookmarking by song.
3. Actively seeking contributions to the Trust.

Best wishes again,
Sachi

Haha... Yes, goodwill can be more profitable than profit!

NB... Our young hero also wrote a biography of PSP. Possibly the only one?

Perhaps, that link can be edited to give a wmv file giving the mission statement and a few latest links.
when I search for Parivadini LIVE , I get a number of concert videos.

There is a whole book and even a DVD.

It is in Tamil. The scheme to get my wife to translate it in daily readings never got off the ground. Not even sure it survived the flood now.

parivadini-> offering my volunteer service in web page creation for all the 500 concerts. Have sent mail to you.

just now created a model page as given below.
https://sites.google.com/site/rsrtrials ... /000-model

The list of songs in correct order can be obtained by the featured artistes themselves. ( along with ragam, thaalam, composer details). It will simplify our work very much.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If the format wins your approval, we can create sub pages for each song, after video-cutting by experts
-----------------------------------------------------
Mahesh Sir, -> I have used your review in rasikas.

Only if you drop the Sir, Mahesh is enough :) I generally omit the thalam as well, if you can include them as well it will be complete.
