First give space to artist then context and curation can follow for artist

Post by rajeshnat »

Well , atleast in the last 15 years we have some kind of lament on organizers , sponsors etc.

But when Advertisements are scrolled when a musician sings in coimbatore is way too much .When an artist was asked only to sing only Kannada (purandaradasar )krithis , he refused and did not get a chance in the festival in Karnataka.

We dont need curation and context , artists have to be fist given * their own space and time * . Profound empathy with all the artists who have been asked to put up with these kind of arm twisting tactics.

If the sponsors knew how to really make a positive image out of this - they can even project the generosity of how they are sensitive to the traditional arts - in the way they promote it and promote themselves.

But the generation that grows up on Bollywood thinks our ancestors are primitive - not knowing how primitive they are, being manipulated by mass media!! This is a generation that is not doing a genuine rebel against the past bads - but are just being drunken revelers!

The instances quoted are dubious - the young violinist who is being asked to bring a sponsor, should find alternate places to perform! I don't know why he/she is still vying to perform in this space!
