I appreciate your bringing the song here. The young woman sings it so well with clarity and due reverence. Pattamma would have been happy to hear it!

I noted another thing. Pattamma sings the last line 'nEru engaL nADu!' (second sangati) with a dramatic finish (in the upper notes)--as she was asked to, for the film, I'm certain. Here, we don't hear it. The song is tranquil to its very last notes!

Brings back pleasant memories!

Swadesamitran was published tabloid size I remember, and vaguely reall one of my aunts trying to learn a song by gazing at it. I was too young to remember more of it now. However, there was a beautifully bound volume of the earlier issues which was around (blue, with mustard end caps) which I would carry with difficulty, but read at ease, putting it on the floor and turning pages eagerly, Saraswathi's picture commanding attention, and though most of what was found there escaped my mind, what I could comprehend was a delight

I have a feeling Sarasvathi was very much there (could have been so with every issue?). However, her picture methinks was even more beautiful. As with Ananda vigadan, did a number of illustrators work at SM? Also, could there have been a smaller logo?

Arasi, I do not see any logo as such in SM. Also could not find details about the illustrators etc. ( For the ThiruppAvai columns, one "Dheenan" was the illustrator.) ( I have a request from a friend to locate all the other ThiruppAvai tunes of ARI...so will spend more time with SM ..for some time at least ! )
