An update of new lessons added to Acharyanet

Post by asangeetha »

Dear Music Lovers,

I am happy and proud to announce the addition of new Javali lessons on Acharyanet taught by Shri Chitravina N Ravikiran. We have video excerpts from the lessons which can be seen from the site as well. Our earlier lessons also include many beautiful Javalis taught by Smt Rama Ravi. As a student myself, I find these immensely valuable as the direct opportunities to learn such compositions from such teachers are extremely difficult.

Heres the link: http://www.acharyanet.com/carnatic-less ... l-lessons/

A little about the site for those who are interested:
Acharyanet(http://www.acharyanet.com) was my little musical project started couple of years as a hobby when I quit my full-time job as an engineer to focus on my own musical training. Having been a passionate student of music, I felt the need to have available authentic teachings or padandarams online for the benefit of everyone. How many times have we (the students) yearned to learn from great masters but could not due to geographical or time constraints. Advent of internet possibilities motivated me to start a resource library online that students could use as a reference to improve their knowledge and be motivated to reach higher levels of training in Carnatic Music.

Thanks to great gurus and passionate students , who have supported and continue to support this endeavor we have made a lot of progress and continue to add new lessons to the site from basic to advanced as well as wide variety of lessons from various composers and categories. I would like to think that this venture is probably one of its kind available online today and my wish is for the site to include as many more valuable teachings, especially from senior vidwans. I was awed at the prowess and stamina with which RK Shrikantan mama taught some beautiful Dasa Padas at my request and my only regret is that I was not able to return to him to record more which he promised he would do later. Sadly, Time waits for no one.

I also look forward to sharing some recordings of lec-dems and other useful videos that may benefit the community. Thanks for reading.

Sowmya acharya

Best Wishes for your very good initiative. My request and sincere advise is to give highest priority for the purity in the patanthara and maestros who are uncompromisingly teaching and performing with this as ideal. With stylist taking full liberties, patanthara sudhatvam has suffered. This is one of the main cause for the decline in classicism in Karnatic Music.

I have moved the discussion/debate about teaching methodology to a separate thread: http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23753

Continue the debate there if there is still any interest.
