The day MSG ran riot with his HM leanings .

Pl Listen to this excerpt from Somu-MSG-Sankaran-??? at a Ramanavami Concert.

Such a fine choice of emphasis , by all the artists .

Elsewhere in the same concert , it is back to CM Soil

Masters of their trade . All of them.

varsha wrote:MSG's music shall always be associated with technical wizardry .And a continuous flow from the sublime to sublime . It is in this context that when I had chanced upon several spool recordings , a decade ago, I never had the urge to split the tracks into songs etc .
They have been retained as it is - with the 72 minute tracks fused into one , for the spool.
The joy of listening to such immaculate recordings ,is beyond words .
And is very special in the context of MSG .
May I have the rest of the songs from this concert, please? I have never heard a Shanmukhapriya like this!! I have listened to only later recordings of SKR. Both SKR and MSG are spellbinding in this performance. The more I listen to older (than me) pieces like this, the more I feel that the best music is behind us.

Thank you very much.

What a great track. Looks like a near full bench kutcheri with the Mrudangam, Ghatam and the khanjira. Pure Gold @ 25:24, when Somu says "AALukku oru chance kuduthurradhu" evoking spontaneous laughter from the audience

Varsha,

Thanks for the blissful Somu-MSG concert. At one point (in the Bagesri piece) Somu exults in response to MSG's playing with a spontaneous "ayyo" by way of appreciation and then adds - "Gopalakrishnan kaiyyila idu vaai patta kekkaradu (I am not sure I got the words accurately). It brought tears to my eyes. As Enna_Solven says, it does appear a lot of the best of our music indeed may be behind us. BTW, the concert list misses numbers 6 and 12. I worry we may be missing two more gems. Please tell me we are not?

Another such Sri. Somu's appreciation of MSG is there at the beginning of mohanam around 1:46. It is for a fraction of a second. Somu, while being in the depth Mohanam becomes a rasika of MSG's ever so minute little twist in the ending of that return phrase for that fraction of a second.

Thanks for pointing that out! The mohanam piece itself is sheer bliss! If only the kalpana swarams had been longer!
Semmu86, thanks for finding the missing pieces!

Is there a chance that the proceedings of the MSG Meet on 19th would be videotaped? Those of us ardent fans of his who cannot attend because of time and distance factors could benefit from a recording later on.
May I also request Sri Nageswaran, a foremost devotee and close friend of Sri MSG, to represent the Rasikas forum by speaking on all our behalf? Hope you see this post, Nageswaran sir?

It would be nice if the MSG meet were webcast or even just audio recorded for his numerous rasikas everywhere.

Here MDR and MSG render a pallavi in mOhanam:
