Nagaswaram, veena and Bharatanatyam at Salzburg fest

Injikudi-E-M-SubramaniamPerhaps for the first time, the internationally-known and prestigious Salzburg Festival of music and drama in Austria will begin with nagaswaram, the classical music which is traditionally played for auspiciousness and grace.
This festival starts in Austria on July 25.
Three artistes from Tamil Nadu have been invited for the festival. They are nagaswaram vidwan Injikudi E. M. Subramaniam, veena artiste Jayanthi Kumaresh and Bharathanatyam dancer Alarmel Valli.
It was R. Nagaswamy, former Director, Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department who suggested that to the festival curators that nagaswaram be chosen to open the festival much in line with the classical tradition in this part of India.
