GLAC Benefit concert for Chennai #DetroitforChennai

Post by sriramganapathy »

GLAC's First concert of 2016 - A Benefit concert for Chennai

Our first Carnatic event of the year is a Benefit Concert for all the Musicians from Chennai who lost everything, including their instruments and livelihood in the worst floods of the century! And it is appropriate that partners GLAC & Oakland U do a fundraiser after the waters receded. And what better place to do this than Detroit?

When: Saturday, January 30 at 7 PM
Where: Varner Hall, Oakland University

* Michigan Jugalbandi
A group led by Mark Stone (mbira/ gyil) that includes fellow OU professors Sam Jeyasingham (kanjira/ morsing) and Patrick Fitzgibbon (tabla/ drum set) as well as OU graduate student Matt Dufresne (saxophones) and mridangam artist Vinod Seetharaman

* Michigan's own -- A traditional Carnatic performance featuring Michigan’s preeminent Carnatic musicians: Madurai Sundar (voice), Jay Balan (violin), and Vinod Seetharaman (mridangam)

There is no admission fee for the event. However, all attendees are encouraged to give generously in support of recovery efforts underway in Chennai.

Even if you can't attend the concert, donate online!

Throughout 2016, GLAC will be accepting donations to be given to Chennai musicians. Donations will be accepted online via http://www.glacmichigan.com on the top right of the page. All donations to GLAC are tax deductible!

Chennai is known as the Detroit of India & with classical music, GLAC has made Detroit. the Chennai of USA.

Detroit - it's your chance to support your sister city!
