Indian Music Camp

Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music will be hosting a two-day camp on Indian Music. Come join us at our campus for two exciting days as we celebrate the rich traditions of Indian music through master classes, workshops, and performances by a host of accomplished Indian musicians from all over India.

What you will learn

In conjunction with the 10-week Indian Music Certificate offered at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music, this two-day camp will introduce you to the essence of Indian music with our Indian Music faculty who will give you a feel of what you can expect in the 10-week certificate course. The essential Indian music forms and various traditions will be explored through the rich melodic and rhythmic aspects that distinguish Indian music from other styles. This camp will foster an appreciation of Indian music art forms

Special Guests

Shujaat Khan – Grammy nominated sitar player of the Imdadkhani gharana, has performed in a number of music festivals around the world including his notable performances at the Royal Albert Hall and Royce Hal in L.A. With over a 100 releases, Shujaat Khan has worked in different genres of music and he will be sharing his thoughts on Hindustani music as well as demonstrate a few popular sitar-playing techniques.

Tanmoy Bose – India’s best-known tabla virtuoso, percussionist and global music ambassador, Tanmoy has performed with the likes of Ustad Munawar Ali Khan & Ustad Imrat Khan. Tanmoy began his performing career with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and was also invited by Ravi Shankar to play with him around the world. He is also the founder of the popular world music group ‘Taaltantra’ that experiments with Jazz, Indian classical and folk music.

Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam – hailing from a family of traditional musicians, Bakthavathsalam is an accomplished mridangist based in Chennai. He has travelled extensively and accompanied a range of well-known artists including K. J. Yesudas, M. Balamuralikrishna, Bhimsen Joshi and many more. He has also founded the ‘Laya Madhuraa’ school of music, in Chennai, which trains young students on the mridangam.

P. Unnikrishnan – award winning playback singer, P. Unnikrishnan is a trained Carnatic singer, who started his playback singing with Kadalan. He has sung on more than fifty films and is also a judge on popular music reality shows. He will be sharing his thoughts on shaping a career in Indian music.

Arrival: applicants outside Chennai can arrive on Friday 1st July and register.

You can leave latest by Monday, 4th July.

Cost : INR 3000 for two days including food and accommodation.
