Re: Trivandrum Navaratri Mandapam concerts 2017
A judicious blend of young, the established and the old 'is gold' vocalists, instrumentalists. Rama Varma makes it happen year after year--with new combinations.
Local talent, Trivandrum Sridhar (made himself visible to many of us after Cleveland a few years ago) is featured more than once. Youngsters, oldsters, anchor--all add flavor to the event. Hope we get some on You tube--guru playing mrudangam to Sishya's violin too!

Re: Trivandrum Navaratri Mandapam concerts 2017
I have been fortunate to have attended Navaratri Mandapam concerts as a Rasika for about 20 years in a row during my time at Trivandrum (1965-84). As a Veena enthusiast I was blessed to enjoy Veena music of the greats like Sangita Kalanidhi KS Narayanaswami, MK Kalyanakrishna Bhagavathar, R Venkitaraman and later Prince Rama Varma himself (with whom I have a proud yet cherished friendship). Ravikiran ( Chitraveena), Jayasree Arvind and Amrita Venkatesh have also played there.
However Veena concerts have not been taking place for a few years now. I had discussed the matter with Sri Varma and hope he would restore reverberations of the divine strains of the instrument in the Saraswati Mandapam every year to come.
And believe me, the venue is perhaps the only place on earth where you can listen to Veena without electronic amplification -thanks to the vintage acoustics design of yore!
