Thanks for responding but I'm sure the song doesn't begin in jonpuri.arasi wrote:You mean, oLi paDaitha

It starts with Mand, switches to Kapi from 'Ilaiya Bharathathinai '

Re: Oli padaiththa kanninaai
Are both the third and fourth verse Kapi?
Third verse sounds 100% Kapi but don't get the Kapi feeling in the fourth verse.

Yes, third and fourth are in Kapi, not necessarily the good filter Kapi.

I have been under the impression that the first stanza is is kalyani. ..the second also same ragam.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
third and fourth stanzas are same ragam but which? I am yet to decide...may be Kapi.
mand does not occur here. Nor jonpuri

Of the 4 stanzas, the first two are in Kalyani and the third and fourth in Kapi.

There is absolutely no Maand or Jonpuri here. Certain.

arasi, I am told, is related to famous carnatic vocalist AnathaLakshmi Sadagopan, of the 1959-1960 period. I am really surprised that she could go so very wrong in ragam identification for this song, despite that illustrious background.
