Could somebody post some more information on the Raga Phalaranjani? and if possible, some audio too!

All I know is the scales as SGMDS SNDPMGMRS.

Tyagaraja Swami has composed Sri Narasimha in this raga

i dont see any responses to this thread. I was wondering if anybody has amongst their collection, any kriti apart from Sri Narasimha in this ragam. I havent heard it from any Vidwan. Someone did tell me that BVRaman and BV Lakshmanan have sung the same but I am not able to get the recording. I would appreciate if somebody could post it.

I believe Narasimha was composed in Phalamanjari but now is rendered in Phalaranjani. The song Sanatanaparamapavana is in Phalamanjari (Lalgudi Jayaraman has played this in a commercial recording)

Both are fairly similar ragas but Phalamanjari has no Pa in the arohana:

Phalamanjari (22)
S G2 M1 D2 S - S N2 D2 P M1 G2 M1 R2 S

Phalaranjani (22)
S G2 M1 P M1 D2 S - S N2 D2 P M1 G2 M1 R2 S

The very first line of Sanatana parama pavana has the swaras S G,,, M , P,,, and does involve the Gm Pm DS prayoga in the arohana and thus, clearly suggesting the Sgmpmds usage in the arohana. Also Sri Narasimha, as I have heard, by Senior artistes like Ramnad Krishnan is announced as Phalamanjari. I have so far not come accoss, that song being referred to as Phalaranjani.
The other significant aspect of the vakra ragas having arohana using sgmpmd or smgm and so on also allows a scope of the non-vakratva arohanam using a direct sgm d. Take the case of a Kannada or Vasanta as well.
I dont know if different names exist for kannada or Vasanta when we have a straight non - vakra usage in the arohana.
Hope Mohan can actually throw more light on the phalaranjani and the source of the raga and its details. It would also be interesting to see if Sri.Lakshman ji has references to any other songs in the Phalaranjani.
I am also curious to findout, if the said recording of Sanatana does not have the first phrase as sg,,, mp,,, .
There are two other beautiful compositions of Patnam in Phalamanjari, popularised again by the Dhannamal school, Palukuta che Phalamemi and Sri Venkatesha naa manavi.

Unlike Sanatana, these compositions use more of GM DS than GMPM d S. However, the use of PM ds is seen in a few phrase which seem to be more like sndpm ds where sndpm is in the avarohana pattern.
One or two phrases have mgmp g,, m, r, s

Anyways, Phalamanjari to me is an interesting raga and I guess it must have been one of Ramnad Krishnan's favourite. I don't know much about Phalaranjani though I do use SGMPM phrasings in my Phalamanjari occasionally.

Tulaja, in his book Sangita Saramarta has mentioned a raga by the same name and also mentioned it as a janya of mayamalavagowla. Interestingly, he also mentions that mgmrs occurs frequently.
