Even though Swati Tirunal has composed several pieces in maNipravALam, this one and many of the other utsava prabandhams are in pure Malayalam. Let me make a few transliteration corrections in the lyrics provided by Lakshmanji:

P: kanaka mayam AyIDum kamala vAhanam atin mEl

(Is it Lord Shiva, the beloved of Gauri? If it is Shiva, then where is the third eye?)

C4: ati mahasA vilasIDum katirOno vada bAlE?

(Tell me my dear, is it the Sun god with his dazzling brilliance? If so, how come he is so tranquil?)

C5: tArittEnmozhi bAlE! dhanapati ennAkilavan
bhUri virUpAnganatO nIrajanAbhan nUnam!

(Oh my friend with the honeyed voice, if it were Kubera the Lord of Wealth, he would be terribly deformed. He is none of these, so doubtless he is my Lord Nirajanabha (Vishnu))

This utsava prabandham was composed for the third day of the nine-day festival of Lord Padmanabha, when His procession is taken out atop the Kamala Vahana (the golden lotus vehicle). Masters such as Semmangudi, Pudukkode Krishnamurthy and KVN used to bring out the moving beauty of this song in their renditions at the Navaratri Mandapam.

C4 is certainly maNipravALa. "vada" and "kathamEvam" are sanskrit, nor malayALa formations. Also "nUnam" in C5.

The text that I posted are from the book Maharaja Svati Tirunal Kritis vol 1 by Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer.
The texts are given in samskrt, in tamil with proper subscripts and in malayalam.
The text you have posted - Is it from a different book?

Fine! I corrected only the English transliteration, employing accurate Malayalam pronunciation and padaccHEdam (word splitting), which should be evident to anyone proficient in Malayalam. (e.g. there is a world of difference between 'vala mathanan' and 'vala madanan'!)

I was not disputing what you have posted but just wondered how Semmangudi could have written this many words differently. Is this the case with other ST songs as well?

Semmangudi didn't write many words differently. His work accurately captures the lyrics in Samskrt, Malayalam and Tamil. The mistakes are in the English transliteration, which I'm sure SSI didn't do.

During this years Ramanavami concerts in Bangalore, TNS sang Huseni in detail. It was one of the outstanding Huseni I have ever heard. This concert was in the month of May at Seshadripuram , Bangalore.

The krithi was "Rama Ninne Nammi" and was in detail , lasted 24 min approx.

Ramanathan,

SSI's rendition is a commercial recording available in stores. Details are here. http://www.medieval.org/music/world/cds/ori166.html
Shoot me an email should you still have questions.

All,

Sri Kalahasteesa is in Misra Jhampa while everybody including DKJ and SSI have sung it in Khanda capu . I am looking for a vocal rendition ( by anyone with a good voice..:-) ) in Misra Jhampa. A copy would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Ravi - SRJ has sung the krithi in Mishra Jhampa giving it a different dimension. Whether he has a good voice (in that particular recording I have), I would have to leave it up to you to decide :) Shall I send it to your email address and do you want me to upload it here?

Here is SRJ's shrI kALahastIsha in Jhampa - I am not sure who the accompanists are. I hope I didn't distort the track by using improper noise reduction techniques when I digitized it a few years back!!

The composition of St. Thyagaraja, " rAmA ninnE namminAnu.." by T.N. Rajarathnam Pillai was one of the authetic Husenis of the yesteryears.

One has to mention the "rAjan maharAjan" of MKT depicting clearly all the intricacies of this rAga.

It was THIS MEDIA I was referring to in the Secular Theme thread. How can one forget the " tirai danda isai.."( Music by movies) or nAtTTiyap pADalkaL ( Songs for dance) ( programs by Sri Lankan Broadcasting Corporation).

Are you referring to EmAyalADirA sAmi.... for some reason I had an idea that the composer of this piece had heard and modeled this composition based on pAhimAm brhannAyikE as some of the ciTTasvara passages emulate that of the latters', e.g. pp,p SS, S nSndndp,...
Well, it is the swarajati (with its textual variants of Merattur Venkatrama Shastri, Veerabhadrayya etc ) that were the original and pAhimam brhannAyike which is the clone - the former preceding the latter by atleast half a century - if not a century!! I am also looking for a vocal rendition of EmAyalADira - Could someone tell me if the said Pinakapani lecture has a rendition of the Swarajathi. If it is, could someone please share a copy?

I have 'Rama ninne Namminanu' by Maharajapuram Santhanam tagged as Mohanam...should it be Huseni ? (I am no expert).

You can add these tracks to your collection .
Just in case you dont know
Click "Add to my collection " after you hit the first link . And they get transferred to your folder .
After which I can delete mine , since I always have space constraints.
Indeed . It is a such a delightful raga.
Sowmya has sung it as an elaborate RTP too , but I am not posting it on the net since it may be commercial.

I keep Current artist's music out of the purview of such internet sharing - out of respect for their sentiments.
TNS - One look at his repertoire of krithis sung over hundreds of concerts gives the correct picture of the personality.
No one , in my books , has gone as far and wide , as he has dared to do.
His ,is an act, that is not likely to be repeated in a 1000 years atleast .

Two other renditions (that are not in your collection, probably because they are commercial) are Doreswami Iyengar's and Manasi Prasad's (in the CD brought out by Ananya).

I need to make a correction on my post #70 above. It was not Huseni I had in my mind when I was thinking of Doreswami Iyengar and Manasi Prasad renditions. It was hamir kalyani.
However, I would love instrumental recordings, any rAga, any day! And, I know you are generous!
