A 'New' Pallavi

Post by SabashBale »

This line just occurred to me for choice of a Dwi-raga Pallavi:

Suddha-dhanyasi Suddha-madhyamam Sumanesa-ranjani Prati

Does it stand the test of pallavi grammar? If so, is it aesthetic and what talam could this be sung in?

You can sing in a Pallavi whatever lyrics you wish. As for Thalam, well, that too is your wish... :P But you can try keeping a nice eduppu like thaka thalli or something like that...

P.S. what's your obsession with madhyamam ;) ?

Intuitively, words starting with Shu and such closed emphasised syllables don't find much favour in pallavis especially as starting words, because the starting syllable needs to have stretchability and also should not be a stumbling block. Words like rAmam, nee, dAsharathI, mInAkshi, rAgamE etc are examples of starters.
To have meaning, a pallavi line needs a verb like namAmi, pAhi, etc. Some call-outs or prayers to god like harE rAma gOvinda dEvi, prabhO etc. have an implied namastE or pAhi.

Sanskrit words have to follow Sandhi rules and vibhakti rules. So I can address rAma as (hE or O) rAma. But it is harE or sItE or vishNO.
