Hi all,
I really like Hamsanaadham raagam. I have heard many people sing Bantureeti with some of them doing a short alaapana (I like S. Kalyanaraman). I also did listen Dandapani Desikar's pada vendume posted by param sir.
Are there any other songs in this raagam? Have artists done extensive alaapana in this raagam?
Please share your thoughts
Regards
Shyam

There is a beautiful Ramayana composition by OVK in this rAgam: kalyANa rAmA: sung by both Vijay Siva and Nityashree: Unfortunately, they are both commercial renderings.

I know a commercial recording where Dr.Balamuralikrishna has done a nice long alapana for Bantureethi. I think it also contains Dayajuchuta (Ganavaridhi) and/or maybe a song in Chakravaham.

However you can search for 'Hamsa Nadam' in Music India Online (www.musicindiaonline.com) under the Carnatic Vocal section

A rendition of Bantureeti by Ramnad Krishnan preceded by an alapana
[rapidshare links deleted]

Another special thing about this rendition is that Ramnad is accompanied on
flute by T Viswanthan in addition to V Thyagarajan on violin (T Ranganathan
is on mridangam).

Hi Mantra
I have a detailed Hamsanaadam by Sri Yesudas with a fantastic alapana and kalpanaswaram. Its from a concert that I recorded 10yrs ago in Chicago. Its on a tape. So I will see if I can get it onto my computer, so that everyone enjoy it.

the vivadhi dhaivadham is actually present in some version of bantureeti. Senior Vidwans like Sangeetha Kalanidhi R Vedavalli sing the kriti with the dhaivadham. The dhaivadham is clearly shown in the anupallavi of her rendering. I may have a recording. will check and post if i can find it.

HMB has composed Krupanidhe in Hamsanadham with the shatshruti dhaivatham.

As I understand it, the archaic form of hamsanAdam, as given in sangraha cUDAmaNi and employed by tyAgarAjA, contained ShaTSruti dhaivatam - I believe the original name of what we sing today as hamsanAdam is "varadA."

I have got a recording of Yesudas singing Bantureethi where he actually uses Daivatham both in Manodharama as well as in the krithi..

Suji - here it is, sung by my wife, Sangeetha, and played by me.

http://www.carnaticcorner.com/sounds/misc/

Regarding the Dhaivatham, while I don't use it, I think it is better to treat it as a gamakam from the Ni rather than a note in its own right.

This is a discussion that I initiated on rec.music.indian.classical (the orginal internet carnatic music discussion forum) back in 1995.

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.musi ... 7831a0a623

The chitta swaram with the Dha in Dasachala by GNB may have been added by TSK, who was a proponent of using the Dha.

Vijaysiva sang an elobarate 'Kalyana rama' last year at S V Temple, Pittsburgh. It was a pretty good rendering.

Of the instrument renderings, MSG and Ravikiran are the ones i have heard many a time. MSG needless to say renders this raga very well and uses the dhaivatham on just a couple of locations. A couple of years ago, Mysore Manjunath played this 'la MSG' style in the Mysore brothers concert.

I have it.....not sure if it is allowed for upload.

Horrible mridangist though...

As bala747 often says on these forums, the days of capable accompanyists are over...whats worse is perhaps even the audiences knowledge to identify/ask for capacity seems to be long gone!

hi

this is the raga and Bantureethi is the song which created interest in me about Carnatic music.. eight years ago, I heard this song on tape sung by Chembai at somebody's house.. After listening to that rendering I became deeply interested in Carnatic music..

bantureethi - hamsanadam
enthaveduko - saraswathymanohari

hi Ramakrishnan

I had Bantureethi sung by Chembai..thanks.. after listening to this song, my aim was to search for all the artists who have sung this song.. I just brought a lot of audio cassettes...various other songs in those cassettes.. thus the ever hungry quest for listening to Carnatic music began.. still this song as well as Hiranmayeen Lakshim of MD deeply moves me...

Dear Shri. Coolkarni Sir: I request the RTP by TMT, please Sir in Hamsanadham. Also when possible the rendition by OST. Do you have Samaganapriyakaram in Kirvani(this is a composition of Guru Surajananda) by OST?. Any other artiste will also do. Vocal preferably. God bless you.
