Ghazal music is a nice balance between heavy classical and light music.
My favourite singer is Ghulam Ali. He tends to try out new and innovative 'sangatis' in his live concerts.
E.g. here with his famous Chupke chupke raat din
Btw, the ambience created in this recital is something that perhaps we can replicate in a CM concert?

Now we are giving ideas to artists :@
This did make an attempt a decade ago - not in concerts though - and mercifully did not establish itself.
Why would you want a ghazal in a CM Concert when the contexts are totally different.
It is a different matter if you dont understand the lyrics in both the cases

Here is the better version of Bole re papee hara by Runa Laila. I searched all over India and the Net for this album for over 25 years and got it only after Nandagopal located the LP in an Second hand album store in kolkatta .

Another beauty ...from Mukesh
And one for those who are not teetotallers , and can understand the pangs of drunkenness

Oh no, you completely misunderstood me! God forbid, I wasn't suggesting including ghazals in CM concerts at all!mankuthimma wrote:Why would you want a ghazal in a CM Concert when the contexts are totally different.
I was referrring more to the ambience created by the seating arrangement, decor etc.
Even the Academy set-up doesn't appeal to me (including the mini auditorium), with the typical auditorium style seats etc. Why can't we have a more intimate atmosphere for CM concerts, with people sitting on the floor and the artistes in close proximity to the rasikas?
I recall we had such a setting for the thematic series that Carnatica presented couple of years ago. I forget the venue, but senior artistes like Tanjavur Sankara Iyer, RK Srikantan et al performed for the series.
