‘Cricket Kutcheri’ has been a tradition in Carnatic music circles. It is that time of the year when musicians come together for a day after a hectic December schedule to cool off and relax. What better way to do it than play the sport everyone loves - cricket!
Youth Association for Classical Music (YACM), instrumental in conducting it every year, has given in to the wish of a number of musician-cricketers for a floodlit match. Carnatica joined hands for this path-breaking ‘event’. This year, the match is being played at the Gopalapuram cricket ground on February 9 from 6 p.m.!
Like every year, there are customised team T-shirts and caps for each of the 4 teams, dinner sponsored by Sri Krishna Sweets, medals and certificates for all players, and a rolling trophy for the winning team. The winners’ trophy will be handed over to the subsequent years’ winners by the previous year’s winning captain.
This year, IG A. Natarajan, a cricket enthusiast, is inaugurating the match.
The 4 teams’ captains are T M Krishna, P Unnikrishnan, Chitravina N. Ravikiran and Poongulam Subramaniam. First, there will be a group match between the 4 teams and the 2 winners will play the finals. The preliminary matches will be for 14 overs and the finals, a 16 overs match.
There will be Man of the Match awards for each match and a Man of the Series award. Additional awards will be for Best Bowler, Best Batsman, Best fielder and Best All-Rounder. The selection panel for these four awards will be the spectators – who are all welcome for this ticketless match.

From what I hear Poongulam's team won. Ravikiran's team was the runner-up.
