Novice question on RTPs

Post by asterix »

If an artiste sang the following as an RTP

lambOdara lakumikara
srmgr srgrs

If the RTP was sung/played for this in raga mayamalavagowlai and the artiste went on to sing/play
raagamalika which included a ragam say mohanam.

While singing the song without the swaram ma in ragam (for eg.) what would be the swaram for the wording lambOdara ?
and how does it sound lambOdara (does it not make the original notes insignificant?)

asterix: I do not know if there are any specific rules, you will have to go with where your aesthetics take you at that point.

A few possible alternatives that sound good are:

Original: S R M. G R S R G R S
Mohanam:
S R GP G R S R G R S
S R G, G R S R G R S
S R GDP G R S R G R S

The idea has to be avoid cacaphoni(x) at all costs, right?

good one rshankar!

* There is no rule that says the line in Mohanam even has to start with S R. It just has to have the similar rhythmic structure of the original line, ie. should have same eddupu as the original line and finish with the same syllable on the arudhi. The notes used can be anything that effectively conveys the bhava of raga Mohanam. It can start on the higher Ga for example.

No thanks...Vitalstatistix is probably srkris...If I had to chose one from this group of indomitable Gauls, I'd rather be 'getafix'! :)

Thanks Cienu! But in the interests of Asterix's original question, I hope we're not hijacking the thread!
[By the way, in the world of Getafix, Asterix's (spelled as asterixis) is a flapping tremor elicited in patients with a metabolic encephalopathy!]

Ravi, as long as asterix is not quite dogmatix about the hijacking, we are cool ;)

That was hilarious. The comments were even more so.By the way, Getafix got a mention so they must be reading this thread.
What is also hilarious is that 'Asterix' is being discussed under Technical Discussions
