The Indian term Guru has no equivalent term in English. Guru shapes the whole personality of the shishya (Please read the elaborate interview of Pandit Ravishankarji in this regard). Guru understands the strengths and weakness of each shishya. He doesn't apply the same standard formula for each shishya. Efficient, Honest, Reliable and Good Guru is like a farmer who changes his farming practices after assessing the fertility of the soil, availability of water and the climate. He instills confidence, removes fear / inhibitions of the shishya and brings out the best that is possible by the shishya. He gives the right mix to the shishya. In the case of music there should be a balance of melody and rhythm. Excess of anything will spoil the show.
