Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia at Chennayil Tiruvaiyaru

Post by anandasangeetham »

Pandit Hariprasad ji gave a scintillating concert yesterday accompanied by Sri Vijay Ghate on the tabla and Sri Bhavanishankar on the pakhavaj. hindustani counterpart of Abheri, Kalyani were rendered. the last piece was Pahadi. even at this age his blowing is superb. his hands were trembling even while lifting the Bansuri but the moment it touches his lips its just divine music. even the sharp nuances came out very clearly. earlier in the performance the accompanists almost drowned the Pandits flute...on a request from the audience the volume was reduced and it was just the reverse..we couldnot hear the tabla and pakhawaj at all..it was just a murmur...... |(
one annoying part of the concert was the audience behaviour..some two groups starting clapping for every avartana....very irritating..they did not do so for the Abheri piece which was fairly was for about an hour..but for the kalyani after the main alapanai these two groups clapped as and when there was a pause by the musician..very very irritating.....both for the musician and the rest of the audience....
