I am asking this doubt, dating back to the time of the tamil film Sindhubhairavi.

They do differ in their lakshaNas and a great deal different in their moods. Arabhi is more sober and pleasing while Devagandhari is malevolent and dominating.

In Carnatica newsletters, Arabhi is said to be more of roudra rasa and dEvagAndhAri as more santa rasa.
Whatever, there is a kshetra gAna by MD in dEvagAndhAri, that goes as sAlivAtIswaram. Listened to a Veena recital of this song by KSN... mesmerising. I would like to listen to a vocal recital of this song and any pointers would be helpful.
Is this song a regular number in past / present concerts?

nri,
There are many kritis by MD and others which are masterpieces in Devagandhari. Shalivaatiishvaram is just an average one. The more powerful and emotive ones are : 1. KshitiijaaramaNam 2. VadaanyEshvaram 3. Kshiirasaagara shayana 4. KaruNaasamudraa 5. Enneramum undan.

Thanks, classicallover.
Certainly did not mean that others are lesser. Just wanted to know if sAlivAtIswaram is a regular in concerts and if a vocal recording is available.

nri,
There was one rendering by someone I don't know, but it is available in Sangeethapriya. The raaga bhaava was very very mediocre especially with the masculinity and force of expression of the raaga missing.
