Who is the sAdhu being refered to in the caraNam?
And I think the last word of the pallavi should be dayAsudhAnidhE.

sAdhu may refer to any holy person I think; In the song 'mahAdEva shivashambhO', there is this line-sAdhu samrakshaNa pAvana.

saadhu refers to many things in different contexts. Here saadhu hrdaya = sajjana = nirmala hrdaya which means clean soul devoid of the kalmishas of the world.

'syAnandUrapura' is another name for Trivandram, I think. In many of the maharAja's compositions, the word 'syAnadUrapura' occurs and Lord Padmanabha is referred to as syAndUrapurEsa.

No. 15/32 Old Malayalam/Sanskrit - First Trivandrum Inscription of Adityavarman 62:

"Hail! Prosperity Ho! In the year Cholapriya when Jupiter was in the sign Leo, king Sarvanganatha of fair reputation moved by piety and devotion and desirous of fame and the merit of charity constructed in the town of Syanandurapura the Gosala temple, the fair lamp house and the mandapa in front of the shrine of Krishna."

In this inscription Syanandurapura is the term used to designate the town of Trivandrum. It will be remembered that in the inscription2 of 365 ME the word Syanandura was found good enough for the purpose. Why the name is now lengthened out by the addition of the unmistakable Sanskrit word pura I cannot say though it is not unreasonable to suspect that the motive may have been to secure additional sanctity to the village by giving its name a clearly classical air.

Syanand-Ura-purA is like saying Chai tea.

Suffixes - one Tamil, other Sanskrit.

Ura - from Ur (place) every other town in TN, neighboring states.

purA - from pUr (place) eg. Chakradharpur, Lakhimpur and countless others

I could guess that the name may have been that of ancient Trivandrum but the correct spelling and the meaning of the name is still in question. Punarvasu has written three different spellings in his post #9 !! Isn't it also possible that the original town was much different and distant from today's Trivandrum ?
