Best wishes for a wonderful concert to the team! I believe the violinist is from Ohio, and has won several prizes in the Cleveland Competitions.

Re: A personal invitation..Sutikshna Veeravalli's music conc
I did make it to the concert. Some very young people made some very good music.
These youngsters have great things ahead of them.
Sutikshna seemed a little stiff to begin with, but warmed up to a much more natural presentation after a couple of songs.
"Ohio" Sushmitha played beautifully and her returns were particularly sweet.
The percussion was more than competent: it was musical, with good nadam put to good use on both mridangam and kanjira. They gave a very nice, spirited mini-tani.

Good to hear all this about the youngsters, Nick! It's much better to show up even when you say you are not sure about it, rather than the other way round! Is it just the violinist who's from the US?
Was Suryaprakash able to attend?
A clip would be nice!

I don't know the answers, arasi, and I have no clip
Yes, Suryaprakash was there, and I was able to speak to him. He is very much multi-national these days, and travelling again soon. He is performing in Chennai on Monday, and giving one of the Oli concerts in October. That I particularly look forward to.

Many thanks to Sri Suryaprakash, and all the well wishers on this forum.
In response to a previous question from Arasi-ji, Sutikshna is from Chicago. (I am her father.) I will gladly post a link of her performance from this concert when it becomes available. In the meanwhile, here is a snippet from last year's Carnatic Music Idol USA. Sutikshna's segment starts at 19:15.

Congratulations on your daughter's success, yemvee, and welcome to the forum.
From the few words I heard her speak in English, I was going to guess at American (another clue was other people in the audience speaking with much stronger American accents) --- but I could not hear any accent in her singing

Thanks again for everyone's well wishes. Thanks also to those who made it to the event.
Nick - speaking of accent, Sutikshna was delighted to hear your comment. She is comfortable in Tamil. In fact, Sutikshna was interviewed on Jaya TV's Kaalai Malar (to be telecast on Thursday July 26 (around 8 AM). I share this here partly because the discussion is on her interest and journey in music and dance.

Thank you yemvee, I'm very glad she was happy with my comment, even though it is the comment of the ignorant.
Despite seven years of living here, I remain the linguistic dumbo that I was fifty years ago at school: quite unable to absorb more than half a dozen words of another language --- but even when I was in London, I realised, one day, when listening to some songs by a Sri-Lankan Tamil girl that she was singing with a British Accent! Similarly, yes, I have noticed a touch of USA in some. I have also noticed when the accent comes in the announcements but not the songs. I could not detect Sutikshna's origins in her singing.
I'm glad she's going to be on the TV. I meant to ask if this was her first concert in India? If so, it must have had a special significance for her and for all the family.

Certainly you are inviting bit post facto for the Kaalai Malar and incidentally I am seeing it nearly as evening news . By any chance if u or TVG could put it in youtube , do share the link.

So Nick, you've stopped maintaining that it is British non-accent?when listening to some songs by a Sri-Lankan Tamil girl that she was singing with a British Accent!
But maybe it's only the adjective "accented" that you protest against?

Ahhh... Sometimes I wish people didn't remember what I say
We Brits have many accents, linked to region, class and various combinations. I'd say there is a base, standard English, which is accent-less --- but even that, if it is imposed by somebody on a different language would become an accent. If anyone thinks I'm bad at Tamil, they should hear what I do to French, nessy pah?
I must consult a linguist on this one: I'll let you know if I ever get an answer.
