I am sorry I made too many slips. It is 'vedi konde' not 'vefilonde'.

Re: Sanjay concert at Cowdiah Hall, Bengaluru 22.11.2015
I will try to recollect my experience of the concert.
The Ganjam representative ( also he is Sanjay's uncle) introduced the vocalist as designate SK.
There was a resounding applause emphatic and agreeing.
Kadanakudookalam varnam was a right kick off seeing the ball already around the opponents D a number of times.
Venketesh was not comfortable with his mridangam; changed it.
So was the Saaveri MD piece. There was a want of perfection in it. Chalamelara compensated it. Sanjay gives a nasal Sa (upper)
and bring out this very nice always. Old mridhangam re-tuned.
Kannada alapana was very good. It had a good swara emphasis. I thought it is going to be Geeti Chakra (MD)
Varadarajan reply got most of the sangathis. Kannada song was suiting the raga name.
ShanmukhaPriya was a surprise and more was the common Mariveragathi. The alpana was targeting the same.
Being Ekadasi the paasuram was apt.
The best of the day was KKPriya. The brigaas were all very well brought out They were covering all lakshanaas to say it was a RTP to follow though
SS did not give the usual second essaying covering higher octaves.
At places Semmangudi style was unmistakable. Yet this R and T showcased why SK at 47.
The reply from Varadarajan showed why he is the best man for the SK-designate.
I do not agree with the thaani as kvvhellappa pointed out.
Venketesh always goes for a thundering and continuous approach to complete his arithmetic. That is to say it does not contain dexterous sollus.
The ghatam Sudhir cut his reply short for it was not possible to match the speed in Ghatam. I thought he could have gone for his own interpretation of the kanakku. I need to hurry and say that his accompaniment to the vocalist was one of the best up to that point. There was some wanting in the thani.
Sudhir got all the swaraprastara in RTP while supporting the violinist.
It was behag but not the song as listed. It was indeed PSivan.
I did not get the raaga of the thillana for that matter it was the first time that SS sang a thillana in Bangalore.

If someone named Prasanth can spell his name Prashant to please some illiterate Northies, the least I can do is to spell the tup-tup artist's name the South Indian way.rajeshnat wrote:You corrected Sanjay. Harimau, there is no restriction as to what you can do, but Subrahmanyan is the south indian way. (maybe h is missed often).

Re: Sanjay concert at Cowdiah Hall, Bengaluru 22.11.2015
Chellappa,
Sorry, I have to correct you on the thread title. We don't want the violin maestro taking offence from
above
This happens at times with a concert:
vocalist: ....Subramaniam
violinist: something something
Mrudangist:....Subramoni
Kanjira:....Subbaramanian
Of course, many organizers do not pay much attention to how the artistes spell their names. So, it's possible that in the above list, the spelling of their names are all wrong! Even the simple enough name of god MayilERu--murugan becomes Murukan
I am not pleased when they write my simple enough name with an 'i'. I'm sure you don't relish your name changed either.
Chill appa (!) for instance
Anyhow, artistes put up with this as they do with other inconveniences. And 'name' calling
Tup tup is the way the house feline reacts to this musician: a criticism gun in hand

I agree with Jayan's review that Mridangam was very loud during Tani and did not allow much for ghatam artist. However the accompaniment during songs was better.

Check out the Chennai telephone directory and then tell me what is the most common spelling.kvchellappa wrote:Harimau, there is no restriction as to what you can do, but Subrahmanyan is the south indian way. (maybe h is missed often).

The Bengaluru directory might yield more SubrahmanyA-s. Reason? Both versions derived from the sanskrit word without undergoing local 'treatment'. SuppANi also comes to mind when thinking of family preferences in endearment

A person's name is as given. If it is Subrahmanyan, Prashant or Muthuswamy it is just that. There is no place for research, survey or logical anlysis.
