What constitutes Gauravam for a Rasika here?
Dear and respected rasikas,
These are challenging times for all of us. Some recent discussions post Trump and post hacking have set me on this trail of thought. I therefore state the following as an opener.
What constitutes gauravam for us folks here?
G - Gratitude to musicians, music sharers, and cognoscenti who share their wisdom.
A - Acceptance of alternative views and thoughts
U - Uniform approach to assessing music and musicians without biases
R - Reasoned positions rather than "Take it or leave it" stubbbornness
A - Authenticity, without an ulterior agenda to promote A B or self
V - Voicing what you think when it matters to you, not just for being noticed
A - Availability to new experiences, rather than being stuck in the past
M - Moderation (a self-check) in praise, criticism, or gossip, which are all a part of our DNA
Most of us are battle-hardy, and surely we are deeply committed listeners, so I think I am perhaps sounding here as a patronising or pontificating ass. So please forgive my transgression. But I wanted to get this off my chest.
Disclaimer: I am not using gauravam as a synonym for boring, I do enjoy wild-life watching!
PS: I am writing this while listening to the enfant terrible at Jerusalem via YT. Thanks, Mahesh!

+1 (thumbs up) from me too!
It is this inability that leads to cheap shots, and an overall disrespectful tone to some posts, IMO.
Battle-hardy we may be, but a majority of us have not learned to separate an attack on opinions from a personal attack. Two very separate things, that requires a certain level of maturity and self-assurance in out thinking.

We are a brood who do not like to be bored--
That's why boors too we would put up with--
If they give us musical morsels to mull over
We are game, broad are our views on music...
Carrying a cudgel against artistes and rasikAs
Is a no no--we are a civilized lot, aren't we?
Mad in love are we with music, but just mad?
Plain raving mad against ourselves and artistes?
Humor helps, but not vindictiveness dressing it
Sachi, you addressed it, wise man, we agree
Why would we carry our discontent to those
Who bring us music and nourish our souls?
Our musical cup runneth over--to contaminate it
With contempt becomes not a rasikA, we know

Nick,
Though memory cells at times act as if they've been hit by a ton of bricks, yes, I do remember!

I hope we shall not have too many occasions to remember it while we are watching concerts.

Lovely sachi , i was mentally trying to abbreviate Gauravam . I did not even cross 2 letters . You coming up with this lovely expansion is apt .Sachi_R wrote: ↑07 Feb 2017, 21:23 What constitutes gauravam for us folks here?

Sachi,
Yes, honorable and simple--Rajesh appreciates you for that, and we can unstick the 'istic', lest folks mistake you for something you are not!
Ravi,
I owe you mail, but bear with me. Life's demands are high at the moment. No time at all for veTTi pEchu or whatever...

Re: What constitutes Gauravam for a Rasika here?
In my humble opinion , a rasika gets gauravam when he/she gets good A. sangita rasikyam or ruchi B.sangita gnyanam. There are different types of ruchi , just as there are people with different tastes in food like spice , sweet , bitter etc. But that is a different topic . That is , some may like gamaka based , some briga based, some like both . We cannot say a rasika gets gauravam because of what kind of ruchi he has. It is enough if he has a high level of any ruchi . What is definition of high level ? High level of ruchi means the person feels his soul satisfaction on hearing his fav. music and is able to appreciate aesthetics .
