I have always wondered about the existence of the different kApis. I think jagadhOddhAraNa is in hindusthAni kApi (from foreign influence) . There is also karnATaka kApi, in which the grand sUmasAyaka/sarasAlanu varNams are composed, and miShrakApi, in which tungA tIra virAjam of kamalESha is rendered (thought the yaman kalyANi version is in vogue today).
The kApi I know has the prayOga s r m p n S S n d n p m g r s.

By the by, who is the composer of this varnam ?kmrasika wrote:There is also karnATaka kApi, in which the grand sUmasAyaka/sarasAlanu varNams are composed
KVN used to sing this varnam excellently.
The song venkatAchalapthe, a Manipravalam by Dikshitar is also mentioned to have been composed in karnAtaka kApi.
MMI has sung this, but it sounds like kAnada ?
Can rasikas comment on this ?

there is a concert of Flute Mali accompanied by TNK and Mani Iyer. In that, Mali plays a splendid Sukhi Evaro in Kaanada and then during swaram he goes into darbari Kanada...as in..he alternates both..by playing both the dhaivathams on and off...it was such a wonderful experience. And off late I have started believing that Kanada can have both the dhaivatams..you can blame my admiration for Mali and Illayaraja..In the movie sindhu bhairavi, there is this song "poomalai vaangi vandhar" which is based on Kanada. However in the charanam, Raaja uses the both the dhaiwatams..So i couldn't help trusting the genius of both these men..
