A nice concert that mixed verve and chowkam with good balance. PantuvaRALI svaraprastAra was energetic and had some Math with atIta ending to rAma Bhajana.

with nATTakkurinji Sunil made a lot of difference today and emerged with great success. Very well expressed rAga Alapana and a very delectable return by L Ramakrishnan. Manasu ViSaya is a nice remembrance of MDR on his centenary and his slow paced rendition was enhanced greatly by KallidaiKuricci Sivakumar with Gravitas filled accompaniment in Palghat Raghu style.

This made the day and I listened twice to that whole rendition.

A point about SrI venkaTa girISam - he sang the madyama kAla sAhityam in the caraNam at the end as:

jaladhara sannibha sundara gAtram jalaruha mitrAbja sadRSa nEtram.

sAhityam in publications is listed as Satru nEtram.

jalruha mitrAbja sadRSa nEtram will go as eyes like Sun (jalaruha mitra - the friend of Lotus) and like Lotus (abja sadRSa).

So one eye is like Sun the other like Lotus or both eyes are like Sun and Lotus?

abja Satru nEtram will be moon (enemy of lotus) and that is how normally the Lord's pair of eyes are described.

In santAnA rAmasvAminam - cinmAtram sURya candra nEtram by SrI dikshitar himself.

Somehow it seems there was some intention to avoid the negative word: Satru in some pATams?
