Re: Vid Sri K S Vishnudev - Charsur - 20Dec2023-6.30pm
Vocal: Vid Sri K S Vishnudev
Violin : Vid Sri Gokul A
Mridangam : Vid Sri Delhi Sairam
Kanjira : Vid Sri Anirudh Athreya
Tambura : Senior person name not known
Charsur concert theme was Manodharma and this concert was - true monumental testimony to all aspects of manodharmam!!!
An unforgettable concert, memory to cherish for a lifetime !!
It was a team marvellous, towering achievement!!
1.Sabhapatikku- abhogi - Niraval at anupallavi - out of the world niraval at kripanidhi- with lot of pauses and reflective saahithyam oriented sanchaaraas - no swaram was done which was a good decision as the niraval itself was sumptuous and very much aligned to kalapramaanam of kruthi
2.vidajaladura - Janaranjani - superb medium to fast tempo kruthi rendition and excellent swarams - Janaranjani v challenging ragam and can go over to many allied ragas - but in this case it was perfect scholarly and fast speed execution keeping audience in total raptures !!!
3. Alapanai Kedara gowla - lots of gentle and lovely phrases and lots of new ideas and creative Unheard phrases were sung and the audience applauded twice during the alapanai by Vishnu ji itself- saraguna palimpa sung beautifully - Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar
Niraval at ‘Vara guna Seshadri’ - lots of both MSS and KvN’s touches reminded and full of feel and saahithyam bhaava focus was maintained throughout
Second speed niraval flowed like a beautiful river from Seshadri hills with as minimum mincing of saahitya as possible - usually second speed niraval saahitya goes for toss to keep with tempo but in this rendition once could totally understand and enjoy the saahitya
4. Main saraguna palimpa - superb thunderous tani - they have 200% effort
5. RTP - Saramathi and Saranga - raaga alaapanai shared between vocal and violin in turns - Saramathi is cool and saranga is fire - song of ice and fire (like game of thrones between Vishnu ji and gokul ji)- at times Saramathi Taanam on violin sounded like turns from pirates from the carrribean (maybe its natabhairavi scale)
Metered Taanam with mridangam also was done - several rounds - very nicely done with both ragas interchangeable continuing
Saamaveda saaram-ati modakaram bhaja
Saamaveda saaram-gana thosha karam
Tisra triputa tala khanda nadai ( 7 beats each is taka takita)
Ragam names beautifully Weaved meaningfully in saahitya of pallavi
Ragamalika swarams
Sri ragam
Ahir bhairavi - very very emotive and heart melting soulful rendition
Kuntala varali
Back to swarams in saranga and Saramathi
Trikaalam was done
During kalpanaswarams tisram and chathusram were also explored successfully
Mini tani after RTP
Music for cleansing the soul continued and concluded with
Virutham - Pettra thaai thanai - Revathi, Kharaharapriya, navasidhdhi pettraalum
Neelakanta Sivan
This song was again rendered with a lot of bhaava and sangatis in adherence to meaning
Overall concert took the rasikas to blissful state and deservedly they artists got a standing ovation!!!

Re: Vid Sri K S Vishnudev - Charsur - 20Dec2023-6.30pm
Last year when i heard Vishnu he was like the SSI and KVNcombo to me , i also could spot a bit of early ramnad krishnan too. His voice has power and has nice sowkhyam . So nice to see that there is a lovely saramati and saranga RTP pallavi. Anything that ends with a viruththam and nava siddhi petraalum is joy joy to me. Was it a 2 hour concert or 2.5 hour concert.

Vid A Gokul - although a young person, he played like a senior experienced vidwaan - he excelled himself in kedaragowla alapanai and swarams and in the RTP Taanam - his ideas creativity and swift switches between Saranga and Saramathi drew applause on several occasions - he did extremely well and supportive accompaniment by him

Vid Sairam and Vid Anirudh - they bonded so well and their enthusiasm and appreciation for each other’s overflowing spontaneous creativity was so amazing and they both outdid themselves giving 200% during the stellar tani !!
