Thanks Kannadago....the brothers are just amazing! and yaa, adaanaa, they sang it this sunday here at Ramasevamandali Concert! the main item, an astonishing bhagesree, still ringing in my ears. not to belittle the ragas durga, mian malhar and bhairavi that have enchanted me though.
The range, lyrical clarity and their great way of presentation made me fall in love with dhrupad.
And the way they behaved, just stole my heart. When the chief guest came to honour them, both of them stood up and greeted him. some thing that i havent seen in any concert.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful Adaana. Guys dont miss this, its just wonderful.
and for experts: how close is this to Kaanada?

KAnada vs Adaana .There is a thread that sangeeth rasik championed sometime back , you may find answers there in http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=663

humdinger, we also have lovely renderings of Adana and Darbari Kanhada by BGAK saheb in that thread. Makes for interesting comparisons on pakkad / raag chalan etc., in the dhrupad vs khayal mode

Great News , Ram.Wonder if it will lead to your covering Dhrupad Concerts in Chennai ,from now on ?
http://www.badongo.com/vid/350359
Well here is a WOW excerpt from a DD Bangla Recital. If you have not seen this program , let me know.I Can upload .
But after the April 14th concert is up.(Video has just arrived)

Talking of Dhrupad , it may be news to many that Chennai used to be a Favourite destination for Bhatt and Ginde Duo in the 60s at SGS sabha. My search for these recordings have proven futile , though I can upload one rare track in Jinjhoti.

Here is another track of an artist from a concert in Davangere (or Baroda ? I am not sure ).

http://www.badongo.com/file/2868437

a small clip from around the 40th minute of a majestic rendering in Darbari. An artist who is an Engineering Masters (Electrical) from a Canadian University (1969) and spurned a career to learn under Khadim Husain Khan and later RamRao Naik in Bangalore.
Pity , that Chennai Music mandarins have never thought it fit to feature her.
So what do you say ? Shall we take those few steps to 22,10th main Road ,Malleswaram and invite her for a rasika's bash at bangalore ?
Any takers ??

And the next time you finish typing your review for the day at 11 pm , just make it a habit to check out DD Bangla, before retiring for the day.
That is the UnGodly Hour when such rare masterpieces are broadcast.

I once heard Abhay Narayan Mallick in Chennai (at the Museum Theatre) and it struck me as very powerful. Gundecha brothers of course performed at the Academy this season. Multani I think it was follwed by Yaman...

Coolji,

Thanks for the tracks. You are a darling !!!!

I am not fit to even talk about Dhrupad as my knowledge about it is very limited. But if I keep getting the supply of great tracks from you on this forum, I am sure I will get more knowledgeable at least to appreciate dhrupad better, if not write about dhrupad concerts.

Much as people would curse DD Bangla, I would actually appreciate their gesture of telecasting concerts late in the night. This will allow me to peacefully listen to concerts after folks at home are done with their saas-bahu serials ;)
